The Opportunity

The Maintenance Manager leads the maintenance function, ensuring plant, equipment, and utilities operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. This role provides strategic oversight, manages resources and budgets, and drives continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the maintenance team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear performance expectations, monitor KPIs, conduct performance reviews, and implement structured development and succession plans.
  • Ensure all team members maintain appropriate competencies, certifications, licences, and training, and that training records are current and compliant.
  • Promote high engagement, safety leadership, and proactive communication across the maintenance function.
  • Oversee preventive, predictive, corrective, and capital maintenance programs to ensure reliability, safety, and cost efficiency.
  • Provide strategic oversight of maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution through the CMMS.
  • Approve maintenance schedules, labour plans, contractor utilisation, and resource allocation.
  • Plan, manage, and deliver major shutdowns, overhauls, and minor capital works safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Develop, manage, and control the annual maintenance operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitor expenditure and cost drivers, ensuring effective financial control and value-for-money outcomes.
  • Ensure the Maintenance team operates within approved budgets, tracking performance against forecast and addressing variances proactively.
  • Identify cost optimisation opportunities without compromising safety, quality, or asset reliability.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with WHS, food safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote robust risk management and safe systems of work.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Oversee maintenance stores operations to ensure efficient inventory control, availability of critical spare parts, and optimal stock levels.
  • Ensure the business holds the right parts at the right time, eliminating obsolete, excess, or slow-moving stock.
  • Implement best-practice inventory management systems, stock audits, and supplier management to optimise working capital and operational efficiency.
  • Manage contractor engagement, performance, compliance, and cost control.
  • Ensure contractors meet site safety, quality, and operational standards.
  • Develop and manage supplier relationships to ensure service reliability, responsiveness, and commercial value.
  • Collaborate closely with Production, QA, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Leadership to align maintenance priorities with business objectives.
  • Act as the senior maintenance representative in cross-functional planning, shutdown coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential

Requirements

  • Trade qualification or engineering background (mechanical/electrical)
  • Proven leadership in a maintenance environment (15+ staff)
  • Experience in preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance
  • CMMS experience and KPI management
  • Strong planning, problem-solving, and communication skills

Desirable Skills

  • Meat processing industry experience
  • Budget and project management experience
  • Engineering Diploma or higher
