Job description

Power the future with EPSA

At Energy Power Systems Australia (EPSA), our team members work together to design, deliver and support the sustainable power solutions industries depend on.

From defence and data centres to mining operations, utilities and major infrastructure projects, the work we do keeps essential operations running.

As the Cat® engine dealer for Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, EPSA provides world-class power solutions backed by global innovation and local expertise.

If you're looking to contribute to something bigger and help shape what’s next, this is an opportunity to do meaningful work with real impact.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead EPSA’s delivery contribution to a major, long-term Australian defence marine program.

Working within our Marine Excellence Centre in Bayswater, WA, you will help establish and manage the project controls, commercial disciplines, supplier relationships and delivery framework required to support the program from its early stages through to equipment delivery, commissioning and handover.

This is a significant and highly visible project involving the delivery of engines, generators, propulsion systems and associated controls across eight vessels. You will work closely with the customer, international vendors and EPSA teams to manage a complex program with multiple technical, commercial and schedule dependencies.

The role offers genuine autonomy and the opportunity to influence how the program is delivered. You will take ownership of the project within your delegated authority, keep stakeholders informed and escalate decisions or risks where required.

Key responsibilities include

  • Establish and maintain project management plans, integrated schedules, governance processes and reporting requirements.
  • Manage project delivery safely, on time, within scope, budget and agreed quality standards.
  • Coordinate internal engineering, commissioning, project controls, document control and operational resources.
  • Manage relationships with the customer, international vendors, suppliers, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Monitor supplier progress, long-lead equipment, design submissions, technical documentation and key delivery milestones.
  • Maintain strong financial control across project budgets, forecasts, cost-to-complete, invoicing and margin.
  • Administer contractual requirements, including notices, variations, time bars, liquidated damages exposure and supporting records.
  • Identify emerging risks and take timely action to protect EPSA’s delivery and commercial position.
  • Prepare clear project reports covering progress, financial performance, technical matters, risk and commercial issues.
  • Support factory witness testing and other project activities, including periodic international travel where required.
  • Contribute to the continued development of project systems, governance and ways of working across the Marine Excellence Centre

What you'll bring

We are looking for an experienced project leader who can take ownership quickly, work with a high level of autonomy and confidently manage a complex project environment.

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex projects across the full delivery lifecycle, from planning and engineering through to procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Strong contract and commercial management capability, including experience with variations, contractual notices, schedule impacts and commercial risk.
  • Proven financial acumen, with experience managing forecasts, project budgets, costs, margin and reporting.
  • The ability to build, manage and maintain detailed project schedules using Microsoft Project or a comparable project-planning tool.
  • Strong customer, supplier and stakeholder-management capability.
  • Experience coordinating technical specialists and shared resources, including influencing people who may not report directly to you.
  • A degree in engineering, business, project management or a related discipline, supported by relevant project experience.
  • A current Australian driver licence and the ability to travel internationally when required

Highly regarded:

  • Experience in marine, shipbuilding, defence, power generation, propulsion systems, engines, generators or control systems.
  • Exposure to marine classification requirements or classification societies such as DNV.
  • A mechanical or electrical engineering background.
  • PRINCE2, PMP or another recognised project-management qualification.
  • Experience managing international vendors and coordinating factory acceptance or witness testing.
  • Familiarity with Procore or similar cloud-based project and document-management systems
