Service Technician - Mechanical
Job description
UGL Transport’s Manufacturing & Maintenance team is growing, and we’re looking for Mechanical Service Technicians to join our locomotive maintenance team at the Hunter Valley Maintenance Centre in Newcastle.
These are permanent, full-time positions, working a standard 9-day fortnight (day & afternoon shifts), you may be requested to work night shift or 12-hour rosters as needed to support our 24/7 operation.
If you’re a qualified Mechanical tradesperson with strong maintenance skills, you don’t need to have worked in rail before.
About Your Role\:
Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager, you’ll work as part of a supportive maintenance team carrying out servicing and maintenance on locomotives.
Key Responsibilities\:
- Scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance
- Mechanical fault finding, diagnosis and troubleshooting
- Repair and maintenance of locomotive components and equipment
- Operating workshop equipment, including lathes
- Completing maintenance documentation accurately
- Working safely and contributing to a positive team environment
- Helping deliver reliable, quality outcomes for our customers
You’ll receive two weeks of initial training at our Hamilton North facility to help you get started and familiarise yourself with our operations.
About You\:
- An Australian-recognised Mechanical / Electrical Trade Certificate and Certificate of Proficienc
- Proven hands-on experience in a maintenance environment, ideally within the rail or locomotive maintenance industry
- A strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement
- Good communication skills
- A positive, team-first attitude and collaborative approach to problem-solving
- A reliable work ethic, strong accountability and pride in delivering high-quality work
- Strong digital skills, with the confidence to use computers and tablets
- A willingness to learn, embrace new ways of working and continue developing your skills
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- A strong focus on delivering quality outcomes and excellent customer service
Desirable (but not essential)\:
- Rail and locomotive experience.
- Forklift licence.
- Overhead crane licence.
