Introduction To The Team

Vrbo is Expedia Group’s vacation rental platform, connecting travelers with unique homes and empowering our hosts to share them. Our mission is to make Vrbo the premier destination for hosts to grow their business and travelers to find exactly what they are looking for. We are looking for an SDE II to join our team and build reliable, impactful experiences for our hosts and guests.

As an SDE II on the VR Supply team, you will help build and evolve the experiences, technology and solutions that connects guests with memorable stays and enables hosts to share their homes with confidence. You’ll contribute across the software development lifecycle—from designing and implementing reliable services and frontend experiences to improving system performance, quality, and operational health. In this role, you will partner closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to solve meaningful customer and business problems.

In this role, you will:

· Design, develop, and maintain robust, high-performance services and applications, contributing to end-to-end feature delivery across the user interface, APIs, backend services, and data layer

· Implement clean, testable code, including low-level design, API design, data modeling, frontend architecture, and state or error-management, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and maintainable.

· Collaborate with peers, product, and operations teams to translate business and customer requirements into technical solutions, using data and metrics to guide decisions.

· Own the full software development lifecycle for your services, including code reviews, automated testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational support in production environments.

· Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.

· Contribute to shared platforms, libraries, and patterns that can be reused across teams, increasing engineering efficiency and enabling fungibility across multiple product and service areas.

Minimum

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.

· 1-2+ years of relevant professional experience

· Hands-on experience with at least one backend programming language, such as Kotlin or Java, and modern frontend technologies, such as JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and a web framework (React)

· Demonstrated ability to design and implement service- or API-based solutions, including basic data modeling and system design within a single service or small set of services.

· Experience collaborating in an agile environment, owning features from design through deployment, and supporting them in production within a team or product area.

Preferred

Qualifications

· Experience designing and evolving service architectures, API contracts, and data models that support reliability, performance, and extensibility.

· Proven experience operating systems at scale, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and continuous improvement of reliability, latency, and cost.

· Track record of using data and experimentation to drive engineering decisions, optimize user experiences, and improve system behavior.

· Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML

· Experience contributing to technical direction within a team through code and design feedback, and applying modern engineering practices (e.g., automation, security-by-design, performance tuning) to elevate overall code quality.
