Job description
Location: New Zealand - Auckland preferred; other NZ locations considered - relocation assistance provided
Role Overview
You will take ownership of high-value Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central opportunities, translating customer needs into practical architectures and commercially sound solutions. This is a senior position spanning pre-sales and solution strategy, rather than a role focused solely on implementation. You will establish the solution direction, make the key design decisions and ensure that the proposed approach can be delivered successfully.
You will work with sales colleagues and delivery specialists to understand customer priorities, demonstrate design choices and communicate recommendations to senior decision-makers. The engagements cover business processes such as finance and project accounting, stock and warehouse operations, manufacturing, distribution and management reporting. You will consider how Business Central should interact with other applications to form a coherent overall solution.
You will also help strengthen the Business Central practice as it grows: improve architecture consistency, coach consultants and contribute reusable methods that make future engagements more effective. Where relevant, you will combine Business Central with Power Platform automation, Azure services and Copilot capabilities. The role offers significant influence without direct people-management responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead customer discovery to clarify business priorities, process requirements and solution constraints.
- Define and own end-to-end Business Central architectures across relevant functional areas.
- Explain design options, dependencies and trade-offs to business leaders and technical teams.
- Run workshops, executive presentations and solution demonstrations as opportunities require.
- Shape proposals, RFP/RFI responses and commercial assumptions alongside sales colleagues.
- Assess integrations and complementary Microsoft services where they improve the solution.
- Work with delivery teams to validate feasibility, scope and implementation readiness.
- Provide clear architecture decisions and structured handovers when engagements are won.
- Mentor consultants and contribute to practical architecture standards and reusable assets.
- Identify opportunities to extend customer value through appropriate additional capabilities.
Candidate Profile
You bring extensive, current expertise in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and its predecessor, Dynamics NAV, gained in senior solution architecture roles. The client has identified approximately 15 years' experience as a benchmark for the depth required. You can design coherent solutions across core ERP domains, understand the functional implications of architectural choices and hold a current Business Central certification.
You have led customer engagements beyond technical design, taking responsibility for discovery, solution definition, executive-level presentation, proposal development and a credible handover to delivery. You communicate clearly with commercial and technical audiences, can work through competing requirements and understand how scope, risk and solution choices affect customer outcomes. Experience contributing to bids, estimates or business cases will support your ability to operate at this level.
You are collaborative, measured and generous with your knowledge. You can challenge assumptions constructively, build trust with customers and support colleagues without relying on hierarchy. Exposure to integration services, Copilot, Azure or Power Platform would be advantageous, as would a finance or accounting background. You are comfortable combining remote engagement with travel for in-person workshops and demonstrations when required.
Company, Culture & Benefits
You will join an established, collaborative organisation with a growing Business Central team and access to specialists across the wider Microsoft ecosystem. The role combines senior autonomy with support from experienced colleagues, while offering scope to influence future solution approaches and the development of the practice.
- Hybrid working: typically three days in the office or at customer sites, subject to customer needs.
- Professional development through coaching, certification support and individual development plans.
- Relocation and sponsorship considered for exceptional candidates
