Backend Engineer - Python [Talents Bench]

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Backend Engineer - Python [Talents Bench] based in Brazil.

This opportunity is designed for a backend engineer who can build high-performing, scalable, and enterprise-grade applications for mission-critical environments. You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from planning and estimation through implementation, testing, review, and delivery. The role combines strong Python expertise with API development, database technologies, version control, and modern testing practices. You will work in a collaborative, fully remote environment where engineers are expected to take ownership, communicate proactively, and make sound technical decisions independently. The position also encourages continuous learning, technical research, knowledge sharing, and engagement with the broader technology community. It is well suited to a mid-level engineer who is passionate about high-quality software and interested in contributing to AI-enabled technology initiatives.

Accountabilities

• Contribute to project planning by reviewing requirements, program objectives, input data, and expected outputs with project managers, supervisors, and clients.
• Provide realistic development estimates based on requirements, wireframes, designs, and project scope.
• Adapt effectively to dynamic and collaborative project environments, making independent technical decisions and communicating them clearly to relevant stakeholders.
• Take ownership of project success by proactively communicating risks, known issues, dependencies, and relevant changes throughout the development lifecycle.
• Contribute across all phases of software development, working collaboratively with other engineers and project stakeholders to deliver reliable solutions.
• Develop clean, maintainable, and scalable code that follows established engineering best practices and quality standards.
• Design and implement backend services and REST APIs, including appropriate JSON modeling, deployment, and integration practices.
• Work with relational and NoSQL databases, applying appropriate approaches to data querying and modeling.
• Write well-tested software and contribute to improving project test coverage through Test-Driven Development and/or Behavior-Driven Development practices.
• Participate in peer code reviews, identify potential improvements, and help maintain a high standard of engineering quality.
• Research new libraries, techniques, and technical approaches that can improve development practices and project outcomes.
• Communicate respectfully and constructively with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders while contributing to a positive remote team culture.
• Share technical knowledge through community initiatives, technical content, blog posts, or other opportunities that contribute value to the broader engineering community.

Requirements

• Have at least 5 years of professional experience working with Python, with strong hands-on expertise in backend development.
• Demonstrate familiarity with relational database concepts, querying, and data modeling, as well as practical exposure to NoSQL databases.
• Have experience developing and deploying REST APIs and working with JSON for data modeling and API communication.
• Be comfortable using API tools such as Postman and making and testing API calls.
• Have experience with package managers such as pip or npm and understand their role in managing application dependencies.
• Demonstrate proficiency with Git and modern source-control practices.
• Have experience with Test-Driven Development and/or Behavior-Driven Development, with a strong commitment to improving automated test coverage.
• Be able to contribute throughout the development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and estimation to implementation, testing, code review, and delivery.
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and independent decision-making skills in a remote working environment.
• Be committed to continuous learning, technical research, knowledge sharing, and high engineering standards.
• Be comfortable working as a contractor from Brazil and able to work remotely without visa sponsorship.
• Node.js experience and an AWS certification are considered valuable additional qualifications.
