Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Union Station Enhancement Project Office under the Capital Projects Group (CPG) is seeking a Project Manager to oversee the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects from concept and planning through construction, commissioning, and closeout, or as assigned. The Project Manager managed project budgets, schedules, risks, contracts, and stakeholder relationships while ensuring compliance with corporate standards, policies, and regulatory requirements. The Project Manager collaborates and manages the delivery of large-scale capital projects in a complex stakeholder environment.

What will I be doing?

  • Project manages the full life-cycle (design, procurement, execution, close-out/commissioning) of assigned complex capital infrastructure projects ensuring delivery aligns with program objectives, approved budgets, milestone schedules, and stakeholder requirements.
  • Monitor and drive project execution by coordinating and tracking project activities, managing priorities, resolving issues, and providing regular status updates to management and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders to achieve project objectives while fostering collaboration, accountability, and timely decision-making.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders through meetings, workshops, presentations, and ongoing communications to support project objectives and informed decision-making.
  • Prepare and present project updates, recommendations, and briefing materials for senior management and other stakeholders, communicating complex technical, commercial, and project information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Support project delivery through the acquisition of property rights, land interests, access agreements, permits, licences, and third-party approvals required to advance project objectives.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve consultant and contractor deliverables, including reports, designs, specifications, schedules, estimates, and other project documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements, standards, and contractual obligations.
  • Provide commercial and contract oversight throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and supporting the resolution of commercial issues.
  • Oversee procurement and contract administration activities, including the initiation and management of purchase orders, contract change management, and other commercial documentation.
  • Manage project controls activities, including scope management, cost control, scheduling, forecasting, change management, risk management, and performance reporting.
  • Identify, assess, monitor, mitigate, and escalate project risks and issues, developing and implementing risk management strategies to minimize impacts to scope, schedule, budget, safety, and project outcomes.
  • Maintain project risk and issue registers, ensuring appropriate mitigation measures, contingency plans, escalation and lessons learned are documented and incorporated into project delivery.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Business, Architecture or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent Engineering or Architectural college/ university degree or diploma.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, preferably within the public transit/transportation or rail sector.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification Certified Engineering Technician (CET) or P.Eng. designation or partial completion is an asset.
  • A valid Ontario “G” Driver’s Licence is an asset for regular site visits.
  • Proficiency in AI applications (MS copilot) for project management is an asset.
