Senior Software Developer – ETLRequisition: RQ11713Position: Software Developer – ETL – SeniorClient: Ontario Government – Central Agencies Cluster / Treasury Board SecretariatLocation: 222 Jarvis Street, Toronto, ONWork Arrangement: 100% Onsite – 5 days per weekStart Date: January 5, 2027End Date: October 5, 2027Openings: 1Security Requirement: CRJMCSubmission Limit: 1 candidateClosing Date: October 14, 2026 at 12:00 PMPosition OverviewThe Ontario Government is seeking a Senior Software Developer – ETL to design, develop, maintain, and enhance database backend and ETL applications supporting Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence solutions.The successful candidate will be responsible for developing robust data pipelines, implementing extraction, transformation, and loading processes, integrating and cleansing data, optimizing SQL and database performance, and ensuring that ETL applications are scalable, maintainable, secure, well-tested, and properly documented.The role requires strong hands-on experience across Microsoft Azure data technologies, Databricks, AWS data services, ETL development, SQL, data modelling, data warehousing, and database administration, combined with the ability to work effectively with business stakeholders and technical teams.Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and continuously enhance ETL applications and database backend solutions for Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence environments.
- Design and implement scalable data extraction, transformation, and loading pipelines.
- Develop ETL functionality supporting both initial and daily/incremental data loads.
- Work with structured and semi-structured files, relational databases, and multi-dimensional data stores.
- Develop, implement, and maintain ETL scheduling and dependency logic.
- Perform data integration, data cleansing, transformation, and data analytics activities.
- Design and implement data models for data marts and enterprise data warehouses.
- Apply appropriate software development patterns, standards, and best practices.
- Develop high-quality, maintainable, and scalable code.
- Construct complex SQL queries and perform database and query performance tuning.
- Support database management and administration activities.
- Test, debug, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Translate technical specifications and business requirements into working, tested applications.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, clients, and IT professionals.
- Elicit, document, validate, and analyze business and technical requirements.
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, including ETL source-to-target mappings, data model diagrams, architecture artifacts, and detailed design documents.
- Participate throughout the SDLC from development through testing, quality assurance, implementation, and delivery.
- Provide technical assistance during implementation, conversion, migration, and post-implementation activities.
- Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Investigate data and ETL pipeline issues, communicate potential impacts to end users, and recommend appropriate solutions.
