Senior Software Engineer - Customer Portfolio Enablement
Job description
Marqeta is looking for a talented Senior Software Engineer to deliver resilient and sustainable software projects from design to implementation and rollout. You will execute on defined projects to achieve team-level goals and work on and own minor features in support of larger features. You will contribute heavily to test development and bug fixing and may mentor new hires, interns, or more junior engineers.
The Customer Portfolio Enablement team is responsible for best in class experience for Marqeta's customers. We ensure that our customers can test their integrations with Marqeta's platform before and after onboarding as well as have the ability to bring in their existing data from other platforms at scale. Our mission is to provide a seamless experience to our customers during their onboarding and continuous experience with Marqeta.

The Impact You'll Have
- Own and contribute to the migration data platform, supporting the movement of customer data from external issuers into Marqeta's systems at scale.
- Build and maintain environment provisioning automation, including orchestration flows that configure infrastructure, programs, and sandbox environments for new customers.
- Support sandbox and simulation services that enable customers to test integrations, simulate payment network transactions, and validate their setups pre- and post-onboarding.
- Work across workflow orchestration tooling (e.g., Airflow, AWS Step Functions) to stitch together multi-step processes and API-driven pipelines.
- Contribute to a high-paced, high-ownership environment where engineers are expected to adopt new technologies, leverage AI tooling for development and proof-of-concepts, and rotate across team focus areas quarterly.
- Participate in the core processes of the team, including recommending and implementing process improvements, as well as planning, on-call rotations, bug triage, metrics review, etc.
- Ensure the team delivers secure and compliant products for our customers.
- Contribute to a positive sense of community on the team (e.g. engage in team lunches, team off sites, new-hire on-boarding, etc.).
Who You Are
- 5+ years experience as a backend engineer and a Bachelor's degree; or an advanced degree with no relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, 5+ years of relevant experience may suffice.
- Experience developing in Java Spring Boot
- Cloud experience; AWS preferred
- Ability to understand existing designs and technology choices and make appropriate adjustments when necessary.
- Ability to share relevant information including if difficult task-level trade-offs that impact the product need to be made.
- The ability to demonstrate humility, empathy, and to take constructive feedback positively.
- A desire to grow in your career, learn, share ideas and help others grow and learn.
- The capacity to work productively on cross-functional teams and take a collaborative, team oriented approach.
Nice-To-Haves
- Experience with payments or the FinTech space
- Experience with ETL processes or data migration
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, AWS Step Functions)
- Exposure to data engineering tools such as Spark, Iceberg, or AWS Glue

Compensation and Benefits
Marqeta calibrates pay to a competitive value according to working location. When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this full-time position, reflected in CAD, is: 116,000 - 145,000.
