This position reports to:

In this role, you’ll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact. You will contribute significantly to successful project outcomes within technology, product, and solution development, including associated Intellectual Property (IP). You will act as a key point of expertise in Research & Development, troubleshooting, and product engineering support. You will also apply your deep technical knowledge to propose and implement innovative ideas that strengthen our technology roadmap.

This role is an onsite in Quartino, Ticino, Switzerland, supports the Critical Power Group. Our product portfolio includes Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and power conditioning solutions designed for mission-critical applications.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Design, develop, and validate analog and digital electronic circuits from concept through qualification and product release, including schematic capture, component selection, simulation, prototyping, testing, and hardware verification.
  • Partner with PCB layout, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure robust designs that meet signal integrity, EMC/EMI, thermal, manufacturability, DFM, DFA, and DFT requirements.
  • Manage product Lifecycle Management (LCM) activities, including component obsolescence, redesigns, alternate component qualification, cost optimization, sustaining engineering, and component lifecycle risk mitigation.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and maintain engineering documentation while driving innovation through modern tools, technologies, and engineering practices to deliver reliable, cost-effective solutions.

You will join a highly skilled, collaborative, and supportive R&D team where your creative ideas and technical insights will help shape the next generation of power conditioning solutions.

Qualifications for the role:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, Power Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in electronics hardware design and development within an R&D or product development environment.
  • Strong expertise in analog and digital circuit design, schematic capture, circuit analysis, and electronic system development.
  • Hands-on experience with PCB design and development, including component selection, layout reviews, prototype bring-up, validation, and hardware debugging.
  • Proficiency in electronic design and simulation tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, LTspice, PSpice, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent platforms.
  • Solid understanding of EMC/EMI, signal integrity, thermal management, reliability considerations, product compliance standards (IPC, UL, IEC, CE, RoHS), and root cause analysis.
  • Strong English communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; experience with Agile methodologies is a plus, and candidates must be authorized to work for ABB in Quartino, Ticino, Switzerland
