Job Description:

About the Internship

Are you interested in full-stack development, automation, and the tools that support GPU firmware engineering? Join Intel’s GPU Firmware Development Team to build practical software engineering and problem-solving skills through real projects.

Our team develops firmware for multiple microcontrollers on GPU boards, along with the DevOps tools and continuous integration (CI) platforms that support daily development. As an intern, you will primarily focus on firmware development tools and platforms, contributing to full-stack web applications, build and release automation, and firmware test cases. Depending on project needs and your development, you may also have opportunities to contribute to firmware implementation and gain experience across the firmware development lifecycle.

What You Will Do

With guidance from your mentor and team, you will start with development tools and platforms, with opportunities to expand into firmware testing and development.

Firmware Tools and Platform Development

  • Contribute to firmware build, release, and CI platforms, including web frontends, backend services, and database design and implementation.
  • Develop and maintain automated workflows using GitHub Actions to connect code builds, testing, and releases and improve development efficiency.
  • Develop Python tools and scripts to support firmware development, debugging, testing, and log analysis.
  • Use and configure simulators and virtual platforms to establish environments for firmware development and testing.

Firmware Testing and Development

  • Develop and maintain test cases and automated test scripts based on firmware requirements, and help analyze results and investigate issues.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to improve test workflows, testing efficiency, and firmware quality.
  • Contribute to firmware development and debugging for microcontrollers on GPU boards as project needs and your skills evolve.

✅ This is a hands-on engineering internship that starts with tools and platform development and offers a path into firmware testing and low-level systems

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled full-time in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, or a related science or engineering discipline.
  • Full-stack web development skills, with the ability to contribute to frontend interfaces, backend services, and databases and understand how these components interact.
  • Proficiency in Python and C, with the ability to develop tools, scripts, test cases, or basic system functionality.
  • Familiarity with Git and Linux development environments for day-to-day code management, development, and debugging.
  • A basic understanding of GPU or embedded system architecture, including processors, memory, peripherals, and hardware–software interactions.
  • Ability to read and write technical documentation in English, participate in English-language meetings, and communicate effectively with engineers in other countries.
  • Strong analytical thinking, a willingness to learn, and the ability to collaborate effectively.

You do not need prior experience with every aspect of firmware development. We value solid programming fundamentals, practical development skills, and an interest in low-level systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on project experience developing and maintaining full-stack applications, developer tools, or automation platforms.
  • Experience with GitHub Actions or developing CI/CD and DevOps tools and workflows.
  • Familiarity with CMake and an understanding of software builds, dependency management, and release processes.
  • Experience with C++ development, embedded software, or microcontroller firmware projects.
  • Understanding of real-time operating system (RTOS) concepts, such as task scheduling, synchronization, and inter-task communication.
  • Experience using simulators or virtual platforms for software development and testing.
  • Experience with automated testing, log analysis, or hardware–software debugging, including investigating and identifying the causes of issues.
  • A sustained interest in GPUs, embedded systems, and firmware development, with a willingness to understand the systems behind the tools.
