Position Summary

The Supplier Quality Management (SQM) Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of supplier quality engineers and specialists to ensure that all externally sourced materials, components, and services meet established quality standards. This role serves as the primary link between the organization and its supply base for quality-related matters, driving continuous improvement, risk mitigation, and supplier development across assigned commodity groups.

Key Responsibilities

Supplier Quality Oversight

  • Lead and coordinate supplier quality activities including audits, assessments, corrective actions, and performance monitoring.
  • Ensure incoming materials and components conform to specifications, drawings, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the supplier approval and qualification process for new and existing suppliers.
  • Responsible for Asian suppliers of all commodities required for Vertiv NA, EMEA and India as well as coordinating SQ support by working with VTC SQ team.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of supplier quality engineers and specialists.
  • Conduct performance reviews, set objectives, and create individual development plans.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.

Supplier Performance Management

  • Establish and track supplier KPIs (PPM, NC, SCAR, audit scores, etc.).
  • Lead supplier scorecards and periodic business reviews with key suppliers.
  • Escalate critical supplier quality issues and drive resolution through cross-functional collaboration.

Corrective & Preventive Actions

  • Oversee the SCAR (Supplier Corrective Action Request) process end-to-end.
  • Ensure root cause analysis is thorough and corrective actions are effective and sustained.
  • Apply problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, FMEA) to supplier-related nonconformances.

Supplier Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify underperforming suppliers and lead improvement projects to elevate their quality capability.
  • Support supplier development initiatives aligned with commodity strategies.
  • Drive adoption of quality tools and best practices across the supply base.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Procurement, Engineering, Operations, and Global Quality teams to align supplier quality objectives with business goals.
  • Participate in new product introduction (NPI) and design review processes to ensure supplier feasibility and quality readiness.
  • Contribute to the RACI framework between Regional Quality, Global Quality, and Procurement functions.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure supplier compliance with applicable industry standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 13485, etc., as applicable).
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain quality risks through proactive assessment and contingency planning.
  • Maintain documentation and records in accordance with quality management system requirements.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Supply Chain, or a related field (required).
  • Master's degree or MBA (preferred).

Experience

  • 5–8 years of experience in supplier quality, quality engineering, or a related field within a manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing supplier audits, corrective actions, and performance improvement programs.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) – ASQ
  • Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) – ASQ
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
  • Lead Auditor certification (ISO 9001 or equivalent)

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in quality tools: FMEA, SPC, MSA, PPAP, APQP, Control Plans.
  • Strong knowledge of root cause analysis methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa).
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and supplier management platforms.
  • Data analysis and reporting skills (Excel, Power BI, or similar tools).

Soft Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and people management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills (bilingual English/Spanish preferred for the Americas region).
  • Analytical mindset with a results-driven approach.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Travel : Up to 25–40% travel to supplier sites within the assigned region
