We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a distinguished scholar to join the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) as a Full Processor (Chair) within the Climate and Energy Policy Division, at the Department of Technology, Management and Economics – in short DTU Management.

The position offers a unique platform to conducting pioneering research in Climate and Environmental Economics while joining DTU’s broader ecosystem of technological knowledge and innovation. The new professor will be chairing and take leadership in building a group within this field and setting the academic course for the group. Your research leadership is of utmost importance, and we expect you to foster and nurture inspiring environments, e.g. by inclusion and openness.

The Department is an interdisciplinary research unit addressing the societal dimensions of the green transition and the policies needed to support it. We offer an excellent research environment with international faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and PhD students, as well as close collaboration across DTU and with other universities and stakeholders such as public authorities, companies, banks and think tanks.

The professorship will contribute directly to DTU's Strategy 2026-2031 and its strategic focus on sustainable technological transition. Achieving such a transition requires not only reducing emissions but also understanding and managing the economic and societal consequences of climate change, strengthening the resilience of infrastructure and communities, and designing adaptation pathways that remain effective under uncertainty. With this position, the department aims to strengthen research in climate and environmental economics. Moreover, we expect you to develop a teaching vision for how the consequences of climate change and uncertainties can be integrated into the department’s courses and programmes. We are looking for candidates with experience in one or more of the following broad research areas:

  • Economic assessment and valuation of environmental and climate-change impacts and risks, including, spatial and distributional effects, and impacts on societal welfare
  • Economics of climate adaptation and resilience, including the evaluation of adaptation investments, critical infrastructure, and community resilience
  • Design of climate adaptation and mitigation policies, including cost-benefit analysis

Responsibilities and qualifications

We expect you to take a leading role in advancing the research in one or more of the areas above and to be responsible for:

  • Guiding and educating students and early career scholars within the area.
  • Inspiring and supervising early career scholars within the area
  • Attracting external funding, building a research team, and providing academic leadership
  • Teaching and supervising students at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Developing academic and societal visibility and impact
  • Collaborating with internal and external researchers and stakeholders in Denmark and beyond
  • Publishing in leading interdisciplinary and economic journals

You are expected to take a lead role in teaching at the BEng, BSc, MSc and PhD levels.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree or equivalent. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages and, in time, to master both.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Research impact and experience in the research areas listed above, and a strong list of publications in these areas
  • Research vision and funding track record
  • Teaching vision, and documented experience and quality of teaching and curriculum development
  • International and societal impact
  • A solid international stakeholder network within and beyond academia
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills
