Sony Music Entertainment (SME) is looking for an experienced strategic Associate Director, PX Business Partner to join the People eXperience Team (PXT), formerly known as Human Resources. The PXT creates and executes on a people strategy that drives business success. This people strategy guides how we attract, on-board, develop, motivate, excite, challenge, reward and retain employees.
The ideal candidate will contribute at both hands-on and strategic levels to cultivate an innovative, progressive, and diverse culture practices across the employee lifecycle. You will have experience with integrating and working with creative environments and influencing senior leadership. You will bring thought leadership and creative solutions, as well as exceptional relationship building skills and the ability to adapt, lead and drive change.
The Senior Director, PX Business Partner will lead the strategic development of the People agenda for our Iberia Business, including Spain and Portugal.
Working closely with business unit leadership teams and other Sony entities, the role will define priorities across all critical employee experiences, including organization design, onboarding, engagement, compensation, talent management, career mobility, and initiatives to build a diverse and inclusive culture.
Reporting directly to the VP of People Experience, Latin-Iberia, this role will serve on the Latin-Iberia PX leadership team and have a dotted-line reporting relationship to the General Manager of Iberia Region.
The person will lead a team of 2 direct reports and be responsible for partnering with all the PX SMEs: Talent Acquisition team, PX Business Partners, PX Ops, PX Systems, Total Reward, Org Success, The Learning Collective, and DE&I on strategic initiatives that improve the overall employee experience across the employee journey in both territories.
What you'll do
- Responsible for People Experience (PX) strategy in the Iberia region (Spain and Portugal), ensuring every PX initiative directly supports the Iberia business vision, long-term growth, and employee-centric focus.
- Oversee strategic workforce planning, talent management, talent acquisition, total rewards, budgeting, people metrics, culture evolution, and organizational design to ensure we have the right people in place in Iberia.
- Trust advisor to the Iberia executive team, shaping policies and initiatives that foster a high-performance organization, inclusive teams, and a values-driven culture based on our Global People Promise.
- Coach, consult, and create trusted partnerships across business leaders and their teams, influencing employee engagement, retention, and the overall organizational culture.
- Support PX Latin Iberia and Global PX strategy focusing on the strategic initiatives to improve the overall employee experience across key pillars:
- Attraction, Hiring & Onboarding Experience (in partnership with TA and PX Operations)
- Build best industry-defining capabilities with our current and future workforce through Leadership Development, Career Growth, Mobility Experiences and Talent Management
- Place wellbeing at the heart of everything we do through work-life harmony, access to impactful support
- Cultivate and inspire our unique culture through SME’s Employee Value Proposition, Employee Engagement, Inclusion, People Partnering, Employee Experiences.
- Identify themes, trends, and latest thinking to feed into developing the best strategies and approaches for each of the pillars and drive engagement and retention.
- Develop a general understanding of how business works. Stay current on industry challenges, changes, and practices to provide timely and relevant support, guidance, and solutions to business leaders.
- Partner with the DEI Office and regional leadership teams to champion the ongoing actions and efforts of the DEI plans across the region, embedding these principles into every stage of the employee lifecycle.
- Manage and advise on day-to-day Iberia employment law and employee relations issues in consultation with People Labor Relations and legal counsel.
- Direct engagement with works councils, trade unions, and employee representatives.
- Partner with SME centers of excellence (Talent Acquisition, PX Ops, Compensation, Benefits, TLC, Org Success, PX Systems, D&I) on key themes in the region to ensure thoughtful and responsive interventions and initiatives as needed.
- Lead compensation process for the Iberia business (salary reviews, benchmarking, internal equity, payroll coordination, others), to guarantee the Total Reward Strategy is in place.
- Responsible for the development of leaders, middle managers, and the entire organization, working in partnership with The Learning Collective to establish a local plan that builds new capabilities and provides growth opportunities to all the employees.
- Develop a rich business acumen and a deep understanding of creative and music industry drivers with a high level of commercial acumen.
- Use data and analytics to support strategies, gain insights, and build a strong business case for change.
- Champion change programs and initiatives that lead to improved employee experience as well as impact the business results.
- Contribute to a highly collaborative Latin Iberia People Experience team on cross-functional projects and initiatives.
- Lead organizational changes (reorganizations, integrations, termination processes), both individual and collective.
- Oversight of occupational health and safety, employee well-being, and coordination with external prevention services to build an environment where wellbeing is fully integrated in all areas of the business.
- Management of internal investigations, compliance matters, data protection, and other confidential situations.
Who you are
- A self-motivated, innovative thinker who is intellectually curious, with exceptional business and HR acumen and a keen interest or experience in the music or entertainment industry.
- Senior leadership experience and impact as a trusted advisor and business partner, ideally with more than 12+ years of experience.
- Pivots between strategic solutions and executional activities with agility and can seamlessly adapt to changing business environments and priorities.
- Experience leading and developing people strategy and creative vision, as well as being comfortable with getting involved in execution.
- Grit and agility – comfortable challenging and standing alone when needed, whilst also having the ability to flex approach and style as needed.
- Strong coaching and consultancy skills.
- Collaborative, solution-focused partner with a high level of EQ.
- Proven leadership experience leading a team to deliver best-in-class employee experiences, operational efficiency, and high-quality impactful work.
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to build trust and confidence at multiple levels in an organization.
- Demonstrated ability to drive pragmatic decision-making in a collaborative, fast-paced, team-based environment.
- Senior experience in making complex decisions and delivering difficult messages with clarity, care, and empathy.
- Deep understanding and experience in driving transformative changes from a culture and business perspective.
- Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as a key part of organizational culture and sustaining it through aligned programs, policies, and practices.
- Demonstrated success in translating ambiguous business needs into strategies and concrete organizational, team, and individual development actions.
- Proven experience in a role that required strict confidentiality, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to maintain composure and effectiveness in stressful situations
- Experience in collective bargaining, labor agreements, information and consultation processes, and conflict resolution.
- Deep knowledge of Spanish labor law and the ability to manage complex employee relations matters.
- Previous experience working within international matrix organizations and managing cultural and regulatory differences across countries.
