Job description

East West Rail is a nationally significant railway project which aims to deliver much-needed transport connections for the vibrant communities between Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge. Together these communities contribute around £111 billion to the national economy each year.

EWR is one of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects, which the government committed to delivering in full in the Autumn 2024 Budget, and again in the 2025 Spending Review as part of its ambition to unlock the potential of the Oxford to Cambridge Growth Corridor.

EWR is being championed by the Government as a key driver to economic growth leading to a potential £78 Billion boost to the UK economy: supporting new towns, housing, and regeneration.

Role

Summary

To help deliver that vision, we're looking for an Application Developer to join our growing Data Centre of Excellence (DCoE) team. This is a specialist, hands-on Microsoft Power Platform development role. We need an experienced developer who can step into the position and begin designing and delivering production-ready applications using Power Apps, Power Automate and Dataverse.

Working closely with our Lead Power Platform Developer, you will take ownership of the design, development, deployment and support of business-critical solutions built primarily on the Microsoft Power Platform and wider Microsoft technology stack. This is not a generalist software development role: successful applicants must already have strong practical experience of delivering Power Apps, Power Automate workflows and Dataverse solutions in a business environment.

This is an opportunity for an established Power Platform developer to apply their expertise from day one while helping to shape secure, scalable and well-governed digital solutions for one of the UK's most ambitious infrastructure programmes.
  • Designing, building and deploying Power Apps, including canvas and model-driven applications, using Dataverse as a core data platform.
  • Developing Power Automate cloud flows to automate business processes and connect Microsoft 365, Dataverse and other services.
  • Extending and integrating Power Platform solutions using APIs, custom connectors, Azure services and appropriate pro-code components.
  • Developing complementary solutions across the Microsoft stack, including SharePoint Online, Microsoft Fabric and Azure.
  • Working directly with stakeholders to turn business requirements into intuitive, secure and maintainable applications.
  • Applying Power Platform governance, security, environment management, DevOps and application lifecycle management best practice.
  • Testing, documenting, supporting and continuously improving applications already in use across the business.
Essential experience:

To be considered for this role, you must be able to demonstrate recent, hands-on experience of developing and delivering applications on the Microsoft Power Platform, including:
  • Power Apps: building, testing and deploying canvas and/or model-driven applications used in a live business environment.
  • Power Automate: creating robust cloud flows for approvals, notifications, integrations and end-to-end process automation.
  • Dataverse: designing tables, relationships, security roles and solution components.
  • Power Platform application lifecycle management: working with solutions, environments, source control and controlled deployment between development, test and production.
  • Integrating Power Platform with Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, Azure services, APIs and other data sources.
  • Applying security, governance, performance and maintainability principles to production applications.
  • Working directly with stakeholders to translate business needs into practical, scalable technical solutions.
The core requirement is proven Power Platform application development experience. You will be comfortable taking responsibility for solutions from initial discovery and design through to deployment, support and continuous improvement.

Desirable Experience:

Experience with SharePoint Framework (SPFx), C#, .NET, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, GitHub, Azure DevOps or Microsoft Fabric would be valuable.

  • Competitive salary that reflects your skills and experience
  • Up to 12% employer pension contribution to support your future
  • 36 days annual leave (including bank holidays) plus the option to buy up to 2 extra days
  • 2 volunteering days, a chance for you to give back to the community
  • Enhanced family-friendly policies to support you and your loved ones
  • Life assurance (4x your annual salary) for peace of mind
  • Employee Assistance Programme for confidential support when you need it
  • Access to Perkbox for a wide range of discounts and wellbeing benefits
  • Recognition programme, including on-the-spot and annual awards
  • Advanced learning and development opportunities to help you grow.
Diversity and Inclusion:

At East West Railway Company, we’re committed to building an inclusive railway for all. We believe that to do that, we must nurture a diverse team that represents the UK communities that we impact. Our approach is simple - to create an environment where everyone is welcome and able to be themselves. We celebrate diversity and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, encouraging applications from all backgrounds and experiences.

Please note, however, that we are not able to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
