This is an exciting opportunity to join the new National Social Work Agency (NSWA), which was established in March 2026. The Agency has oversight of social work – raising the profile and strengthening the cohesion of the profession across public, third and independent sectors, including students. Our objective is to advance social work practice and support implementation of national policy – driving support, change and continuous improvement in social work education and learning.

The NSWA is an Executive Agency with responsibility for advising Ministers and policy teams with an interest in all aspects of social work policy and practice, including adults, children, and justice social work. Additionally, the NSWA provides cross governmental policy input in areas including health and social care, mental health, children and families, prisons and all aspects of public protection.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a number of secretariat tasks relating to the team and wider NSWA. Tasks include arranging meetings, taking concise and clear minutes, sharing information, developing papers and managing documentation.
  • Leading on Micase oversight, ensuring there is compliance across the organisation and providing support to colleagues to ensure timely submissions.
  • When required work with the A4 Administrative Assistant to support Senior Leaders in OCSWA/NSWA in the delivery of their work by strategic management of their diary, mailbox, briefing, preparation of presentations, assistance with engagements and travel arrangements.
  • Provide a consistently high level of support for Ministers and senior officials, drafting and coordinating regular communications, including preparing responses to related Ministerial correspondence, PQs, FOIs etc and supporting Ministers at visits, if required.
  • Providing administrative support to the Partnership manager and Social Work Education unit head.

Working pattern

This role is a temporary position with an expected commitment of 9 months with the possibility of extending to 12 months.
