Job description

Technical Cyber Security Consultant

Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 DOE

Contract: Permanent, full-time

Location: Flexible / Hybrid / Remote – to be confirmed

We are working with a specialist cyber security consultancy that supports organisations operating within critical national infrastructure and other high-consequence environments.

They are looking for a Technical Cyber Security Consultant who can combine strong hands-on technical capability with client-facing consulting skills.

This is a varied role covering security assessment, advisory work and hands-on implementation. You’ll be equally comfortable identifying technical risks, explaining them clearly to stakeholders and helping implement the solutions required to address them.

The Role

You’ll work across a broad range of cyber security projects, including:

  • Designing, deploying and configuring security controls including firewalls, EDR, SIEM, IAM and cloud security technologies
  • Supporting penetration testing, vulnerability assessments and security reviews across networks, applications and cloud environments
  • Turning security findings into practical remediation plans and helping clients implement them
  • Hardening systems and infrastructure in line with standards including CIS Benchmarks, NCSC guidance and ISO 27001
  • Developing scripts, automation and internal security tooling
  • Acting as a trusted technical point of contact for clients
  • Explaining complex cyber security risks clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Producing high-quality technical reports, documentation and remediation guidance
  • Participating in client workshops, scoping sessions and presentations
  • Keeping up to date with emerging threats, vulnerabilities and security technologies
What We’re Looking For

You’ll ideally have:

  • A 2:1 degree or above in Computer Science or a closely related subject
  • At least 2 years’ professional experience within cyber security, infrastructure, systems engineering or a similar technical role
  • Strong technical knowledge across networking, including TCP/IP, routing, firewalls and VPNs
  • Experience with Windows and Linux administration
  • Knowledge of Active Directory and identity management
  • Experience with at least one major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Hands-on experience implementing and configuring technical security solutions, rather than purely assessing environments
  • Scripting experience using Python, PowerShell, Bash or similar
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The confidence to communicate with both technical teams and senior stakeholders
  • An adaptable approach and the ability to quickly pick up new technologies
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and willingness to undergo SC clearance or above
Desirable Experience

Any of the following would be beneficial:

  • OSCP, CREST CPSA/CRT, Security+, CISSP, AZ-500 or AWS security certifications
  • Experience with offensive security tools such as Burp Suite, Nmap, Metasploit, BloodHound or Cobalt Strike
  • Knowledge of MITRE ATT&CK, NIST CSF, NCSC CAF or ISO 27001
  • Terraform, Ansible, DevSecOps or CI/CD experience
  • An interest in AI and automation within cyber security
  • Existing SC or DV clearance
What’s On Offer
  • £50,000 – £60,000 salary, depending on experience
  • Funded professional training and certifications
  • Dedicated time for research and development
  • Exposure to varied and high-impact cyber security projects
  • Opportunity to join a small specialist team where your ideas can have genuine influence
  • Flexible working arrangements
