Job description
Reporting to the Strategic Manager – Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, the Digital Content and Marketing Manager will oversee and deliver content and marketing for the council’s Arts, Culture and Creative Economy portfolio. The role will lead delivery on the Creative Swansea communication channels and will also work as a critical communications collaborator between programme leads, the sector, Council venue marketing teams, destination marketing and the Council's corporate communications teams. The right candidate will proactively create solutions to complex content and marketing challenges to enhance Arts, Culture and Creative Economy visibility. This position is temporary until 31st March 2027.

The Salary for the position is Grade 9 £42,123.00 - £46,579.00 per annum.
- Lead editorial and marketing activity for Creative Swansea, ensuring a high‑quality sector‑facing platform.
- Plan and deliver an annual programme of content, campaigns and communications aligned with Arts, Culture and Creative Economy priorities.
- Develop and improve editorial systems, approval processes and content workflows for consistency and responsiveness.
- Research, write, edit and commission journalism‑style stories, blogs and features that showcase Swansea’s creative sectors.
- Manage editorial schedules, content calendars and workflows, coordinating across teams and responding to changing priorities.
- Monitor, edit and approve user‑generated and contributor content, ensuring compliance with branding, Welsh language and accessibility standards.
- Produce and manage visual assets (photography, video, simple graphics) captured at events and milestones.
- Use audience insight, engagement data and sector feedback to evaluate and continuously improve communications effectiveness.
- Work collaboratively with venue marketing teams, Destination Marketing and Corporate Communications to deliver coordinated promotion and support funding bids.
- Resolve complex or contentious communications issues, providing clear guidance and influencing stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives.
- Degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, marketing, media or related field.
- 3–5 years’ experience in communications, journalism or digital content creation, preferably in a public‑sector or cultural context.
- Proven ability to produce and manage editorial content for digital platforms using WordPress or similar CMS.
- Strong editorial, writing and storytelling skills with a journalism‑style approach and high attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating communications across multiple programmes and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in digital tools, social media, basic design and creating photographic/video content.
- Knowledge of Welsh language standards and accessibility requirements, with ability to ensure compliance.
- Excellent organisational, planning and deadline‑management abilities, and capacity to work under pressure.
- Ability to influence and persuade internal and external partners using evidence‑based recommendations.
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel across Swansea and work flexibly, including occasional evenings or weekends.
