About the Business
Micro Weighing Solutions (MWS Ltd) designs, manufactures, calibrates and services industrial weighing equipment for customers across a range of industrial and manufacturing sectors. Developing innovative software platforms, including WeighLogic and TraceWaste, MWS help organisations manage weighing processes, reporting, data capture and waste management.
There is an exciting internship opportunity for a student or graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in software development, systems integration and industrial technology. You'll work alongside the Systems Team on real business projects, contributing directly to the development and enhancement of software used by customers every day.
About the Opportunity
This internship will support the continued development of the WeighLogic and TraceWaste software platforms used by the business. You'll help improve areas such as data collection, dashboards, reporting functionality and waste-management applications while gaining valuable experience across the full software development lifecycle.
Working closely with the development team, you'll be involved in everything from requirements gathering and software design through to coding, testing, deployment, documentation and technical support.
Key Responsibilities
- Review existing software platforms and understand their current functionality.
- Support the design and development of software enhancements and new features.
- Work with technologies including Python, C#, SQL, APIs and database systems.
- Assist with system integration between weighing equipment, databases and business software.
- Create and execute software testing plans and test scenarios.
- Identify, troubleshoot and resolve software issues.
- Document developments, testing activities and technical processes.
- Support implementation activities and respond to user feedback.
- Contribute to project reviews and final project handover documentation.

- Strong foundation knowledge of programming.
- Understanding of databases and SQL.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to test, debug and document software methodically.
- Interest in APIs, systems integration and data transfer.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Organisation and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a technical team.
- Interest in industrial technology, manufacturing systems, automation and AI-assisted software development.
This internship offers the opportunity to gain practical experience developing and supporting real-world industrial software applications. You'll work with Python, C#, SQL, databases, APIs and programmable weighing equipment while learning about systems integration, software testing, technical documentation and application support. You'll also gain exposure to AI-assisted software development techniques, helping you build valuable skills for a future career in software engineering, digital engineering, automation, systems integration or application development.
You'll receive support from the FINOPS Manager alongside guidance from the Managing Director and the wider Systems Team. You'll have access to development tools, software environments, databases, technical documentation and testing equipment to support your learning and project delivery
This internship can be completed full time (around 37.5 hours a week for 5-6 weeks) or part time around your studies (around 25 hours a week for 8 weeks).
