Interim Product Design Engineer role based in Daventry. This role is full time 40 hours per week.
Client Details
This client is a multinational organisation that design and manufactures in the automotive industry based in Daventry. They are looking for an interim Product Design Engineer.
Description
- Lead the mechanical design, integration, and validation of electronic hardware components including sensors, control units, harnesses, panels, and support structures.
- Develop optimised design concepts and specifications, balancing cost, weight, performance, reliability, durability, manufacturability, and serviceability.
- Drive component and subsystem design reviews, collaborating with cross-functional teams to communicate design intent and gain stakeholder approval.
- Make key design decisions on concept selection, optimisation, and technical specifications to meet customer and business requirements.
- Utilise engineering tools and methodologies such as Creo, GD&T, DFMEA, DVA, FEA/ANSYS, and validation processes to ensure robust product designs.
- Lead complex engineering projects and take ownership of product development activities, delivering results in environments with ambiguous requirements.
- Investigate and resolve product issues through structured problem-solving, root cause analysis, and implementation of data-driven corrective actions.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians, improve engineering processes, and provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary project teams.
Profile
- Proven experience operating at Senior Engineer or Lead Engineer level, with a strong track record of technical problem-solving and making sound engineering decisions.
- Strong background in mechanical design and integration of electronic hardware systems, such as sensors, control units, harnesses, panels, and support structures.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD design, particularly Creo, with knowledge of Creo Cabling considered highly desirable.
- Experience using engineering analysis and validation tools including GD&T, DFMEA, DVA, FEA, and ANSYS Workbench.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and other stakeholders to deliver product solutions.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering and requirements management, including translating customer and stakeholder needs into technical specifications.
- Demonstrated capability to lead complex projects, manage ambiguity, drive design reviews, and take ownership of technical deliverables.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence technical direction, support junior engineers, and build strong professional networks.
- Can commute to Daventry.
- Can start in November.
