Colinton Primary is a non-denominational Primary School, which serves the area of South West Edinburgh. It is part of the Firrhill Learning Community comprising of Bonaly, Longstone, Oxgangs and Pentland Primaries. The Cluster Schools work closely together and are very supportive of each other. The catchment includes both Dreghorn and Redford Barracks with many of the military children attending the school, which means it has a very transient school roll. There are 7 classes and a nursery. An impressive outdoor area situated within the school grounds is used by all pupils. Our school provides a warm, inclusive and stimulating environment for approx. 180 children, with excellent opportunities for learning and play both indoors and outdoors.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person with a nurture-based approach who can show initiative. This position would be working as part of a team with our Class Teachers and Support for Learning Teacher. The successful candidates will most likely have experience of:

  • providing pupil support in numeracy and literacy
  • working 1:1 with children who have additional support needs, such as ADHD and Autism

A current first aid certificate would also be desirable.

Good basic education and standard of Maths and English to SQA standard grade level or equivalent, or previous relevant experience is required. Good communication skills, verbal and written, is required, together with planning and organisational skills.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce where everyone feels valued and able to be their best. We particularly encourage applications from women for senior roles, as well as people from minority ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities or neurodivergent people, care experienced people, carers and LGBT+ people across all levels of the organisation, all of whom are currently underrepresented. All applicants will be considered fairly based on skills and experience. Disabled and care-experienced applicants who meet the minimum job criteria will be guaranteed an interview.
