Senior AWS Cloud Engineer

Salary: £70,000 - 75,000 per year

Requirements

• SME-level experience designing, building and operating production workloads in AWS, ideally including establishing a new environment with a landing zone, multi-account structure, identity, networking and guardrails.
• Willingness to learn and deliver in Microsoft Azure; prior Azure experience is an advantage, and a commitment to working across both platforms is essential.
• Strong hands-on Infrastructure-as-Code skills using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation or CDK, and ability to work with Bicep. IaC should be the default approach.
• Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.
• Proficiency in Python, PowerShell, and AWS and Azure CLIs for automation and operational tasks.
• Proficiency with AWS integration services, including EventBridge, SQS, SNS, Step Functions, Lambda and API Gateway, and ability to work with Azure Integration Services, including Logic Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid and API Management.
• Experience with AWS platform foundations, including AWS Organizations and Control Tower, IAM and IAM Identity Centre, VPC networking, and security services such as GuardDuty, Security Hub and CloudTrail.
• Solid experience designing, developing and securely managing SOAP and REST APIs.
• Experience with GitHub version control, including branching strategies and code reviews.
• AWS certifications are beneficial, including AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional, or AWS Certified Security – Specialty. Equivalent security engineering experience and commitment to achieving the security certification are also relevant.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and build of our AWS landing zone and establish the standards for the platform.
• Design, build and support Azure workloads while our AWS environment is being established.
• Act as the go-to technical expert, turning complex requirements into solutions and leading architecture decisions.
• Represent the cloud function in project and client conversations.
• Set the technical benchmark for the team.

We are recruiting for a Senior AWS Cloud Engineer to join a talented IT function at a global consultancy delivering strategic work and transformation for private and public-sector clients worldwide. The role is based in Abingdon, pays £75,000 per year plus bonus and benefits, and requires one day onsite per week. Our multi-cloud platform currently runs on Azure, with AWS being established next and GCP planned to follow. This is a senior technical expert role, not a people-management position.
