Salary: £63,000 - 63,000 per year

Requirements

• Proven experience operating at Senior level; this is not suitable as a first step into seniority.
• Experience as a Senior, Lead or Principal Data Engineer, Lead Data Platform Engineer or Data Architect.
• Track record of delivering significant data engineering initiatives.
• Experience designing and implementing large-scale cloud-based data platforms.
• Ideally, experience with Azure and Databricks or similar modern data technologies.
• Strong SQL and Python skills.
• Significant experience in data modelling and database design.
• Experience integrating data across multiple systems and platforms.
• Good understanding of data architecture, governance, security and access control.
• Experience building data platforms that support analytics, reporting and/or AI.
• Ideally, experience with Alteryx, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI or similar technologies.
• Ability to operate strategically and influence how our organisation approaches data.
• Ability to build strong relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to influence and negotiate with senior colleagues.
• Ability to challenge existing thinking and constructively question technical and strategic decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead data engineering activity, working with data, technology and business stakeholders to develop scalable solutions for analytics and reporting priorities.
• Lead the design and development of a modern, enterprise-level data platform.
• Design, build and maintain robust data pipelines and integrations across multiple systems.
• Develop scalable, secure and high-performing cloud-based data solutions.
• Lead data modelling and database design to support analytics and reporting.
• Use SQL and Python to develop efficient, maintainable data solutions.
• Establish data engineering standards, best practice, documentation and maintainability.
• Build data quality, governance, security and access controls into the platform.
• Help create the foundations for advanced analytics and AI.
• Work with Technology colleagues to align solutions with enterprise architecture, governance and security standards.
• Represent our Data Analytics, Insight & Reporting team in relevant meetings and data governance forums.
• Manage and develop an Analytics Engineer within the team.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and keep pace with emerging data technologies.

Were offering a newly created, permanent Senior Data Engineer role in our Data Analytics, Insight & Reporting team, based in Manchester with hybrid working and a salary of £63,000. Youll have the opportunity and autonomy to help define a modern, scalable and sustainable enterprise data platform, working with experts across Technology and Data to support growing data needs, trusted operational reporting, advanced analytics and future AI ambitions. The role may involve Azure and Databricks, with opportunities to consider Microsoft Fabric and other modern data platform capabilities. The interview is a single 1.5-hour face-to-face meeting, scheduled for 14 or 16 October, with a decision to follow.
