Job description

Contract: Permanent - 35 hours per week Salary: £23,311 per annum Location: Nantwich - required to travel across the North of England (between North Yorkshire/Manchester and the surrounding areas) Closing date: Wednesday 21st October 2026 Interview date: Thursday 29th October 2026 Love being out on the open road and want your everyday work to make a genuine difference for pets in need? As a Stock Collector and Distribution Driver for Blue Cross, you will be the driving force behind our Northern England charity shops, ensuring our shelves stay stocked with fantastic donations that raise vital funds for sick, injured, and homeless animals across the country. If you enjoy an active, hands-on role where no two days look quite the same, we would love to have you behind the wheel. In this role, you will be out and about across your region in your dedicated Blue Cross van, acting as the key link between generous donors, collection points, and our network of busy shops. Your main mission is to generate, collect, and transfer stock to where it is needed most, keeping our shop floors thriving and our fundraising strong. You will plan smart, efficient daily routes, communicate closely with retail teams, and safely load and unload everything from bags of pre-loved treasures to larger items like furniture.

Beyond driving and moving stock, you will also take pride in looking after your vehicle, keeping it clean, road-worthy, and secure at all times. You will handle straightforward day-to-day admin like journey logs and mileage reports, and we will even train and qualify you to carry out portable appliance testing (PAT) on donated electricals, ensuring every item we sell is safe and ready to go. Everywhere you go, you will be a friendly, visible ambassador for Blue Cross, bringing energy, care, and practical support to our local communities. This role would suit a comfortable driver who can keep on top of paperwork such as journey records and mileage. You will have a full UK driving licence that allows you to drive a 3.5 tonne manual vehicle, and previous driving experience. As part of the role, you will be required to undertake and pass a PAT testing qualification.

You are someone who thrives on independence, genuinely enjoys driving, and feels right at home in a physically active role where you can stay moving throughout the day. Moving heavy boxes, sorting bags of stock, and navigating stairs when collecting donations doesn’t faze you, and you take pride in working safely and efficiently to get the job done. You have a keen eye for planning your journeys sensibly, keeping on top of vehicle upkeep, and managing your time well so our shop teams always know when to expect you.

Just as importantly, you are a warm, down-to-earth communicator who enjoys meeting new people and building great relationships with retail staff, volunteers, and the public alike. Even when heavy traffic or unexpected delays crop up, you keep your cool, stay solutions-focused, and handle every situation with patience and professionalism. Above all, you are reliable, take pride in what you do, and share our compassionate values when it comes to supporting both pets and the people who love them. Knowledge, skills, and experience

Healthcare
United Kingdom

In 1897, a group of animal lovers in London founded what would become one of the UK's most enduring animal welfare charities - originally established as the Our Dumb Friends League. At that time, London's streets were filled with abandoned and mistreated horses, and the founders sought to create an organization that would speak for those who could not speak for themselves. From these humble beginnings on the capital's streets, Blue Cross grew to support animals through the hardships of World War One and World War Two, providing care and refuge during some of Britain's most challenging moments. Today, Blue Cross UK continues its mission to help sick, injured, and homeless pets across the nation. The charity operates four animal hospitals providing affordable veterinary care for families who cannot afford private treatment, while also maintaining rehoming and fostering services that match homeless cats, dogs, horses, and small pets with loving families. Their work extends beyond animal care to supporting the humans who love them - offering pet loss support services, pet food banks for struggling owners, and educational programs that promote responsible pet ownership. With over 125 years of experience, Blue Cross has helped more than 35,000 dogs, cats, horses, and small pets every year, making it a cornerstone of animal welfare in the United Kingdom.
