About the role

InPost Distribution are currently recruiting for an experienced Warehouse Operations Manager to join our team in Yeovil. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong leader to take responsibility for the performance and efficiency of our parcel sortation depot, while driving continuous improvement and delivering a high level of service.

Reporting to the Depot Manager, you will oversee the warehouse and mechanical sortation process, leading and developing the shift team to achieve performance, quality, and customer expectations.

This role would suit an experienced manager from a high-volume parcel, logistics, warehouse, or sortation environment who is confident leading teams, improving processes, and delivering results.

📍 Location: InPost Distribution, Sea King Road, Yeovil, BA20 2NZ

📅 Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday (flexibility required)

🕒 Hours: 07:00am - 15:00pm (flexibility required)

💰 Salary: Competitive

What you’ll be doing:

  • Take full accountability for the daily management and supervision of the despatch operation, ensuring the team delivers a high-performing and efficient service.
  • Lead, support, and develop the operational team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, high performance, and professional growth.
  • Ensure the operation consistently meets and exceeds customer expectations and agreed contract KPIs and operational performance targets.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and external customers to support effective operations and high service standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with operational standards, with particular focus on Health & Safety and maintaining a safe, compliant working environment.
  • Work closely with the Regional Manager and Depot Manager to achieve and exceed operational performance targets.
  • Conduct regular team performance reviews and coordinate appropriate training and development programmes to enhance skills, productivity, and performance.
  • Optimise the deployment and utilisation of drivers and vehicles to meet operational demands and maximise efficiency.
  • Collect, analyse, and report on operational and financial performance data, including MPG, tachograph readings, fuel consumption, and damage reports, identifying opportunities for improved performance and cost savings.
  • Oversee site housekeeping and maintenance activities to ensure the depot remains safe, clean, and compliant.
  • Be prepared to travel occasionally across the UK to support operational requirements and maintain strong customer relationships.

What we need from you:

  • Proven extensive experience managing mechanical parcel sortation and process operations, with strong operational leadership skills and a track record of delivering high performance.
  • Proven expertise in continuous improvement, with experience identifying and implementing process enhancements to improve efficiency and operational performance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Drivers’ Hours, Tachograph, and Working Time Directive (WTD) legislation, with the ability to ensure compliance across the operation.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety regulations and their practical application within a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop high-performing teams through effective leadership and leading by example.
  • Experience in budget management, KPI development, performance monitoring, and analysis, with a focus on achieving business objectives and optimising resources.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in using and interpreting computerised systems, including Transport Management Systems (TMS) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
