Category Manager – Convenience Stores

Position Purpose: Oversees the development of the categories and related marketing programs to increase sales and gross profit of all categories within the c-store, including proprietary food service program. Accomplishes this by planning marketing strategies, selecting suppliers, evaluating new products, evaluating new equipment, promotions, and utilizing established Category Management processes. Supports Operations team with Marekting execution and concerns. This person also ensures that a cohesive and professional brand identity is maintained across our network of convenience stores.

Typical Job Duties:

  • Set retail prices for all convenience store items within company guidelines
  • Negotiate annual contracts with vendors
  • Administer product selection (schematics) based on area demands and trends
  • Adjust product mix as needed with the assistance of 3rd party sku optimization analytics company
  • Projects and measures category sales and gross profit results by developing and maintaining records of item cost, retail and gross profit & margin dollars.
  • Assist with costing analysis for food service program
  • Initialize, execute and measure effectiveness of in-store product promotions
  • Oversee or execute all aspect of social marketing
  • Run and analyze sales reports
  • Initiate competitor price surveys
  • Manage Pricebook Assistant
  • Manage part time graphic designer or create C-store POP and advertising
  • Maintain all aspects of brand requirements based on image and customer standards
  • Manage data and invoice exchange between grocery supplier and corporate pricebook
  • Oversee bi-monthly inventory of c-stores
  • Negotiate and manage c-store rebate programs
  • Order select supplies for facilities
  • Respond to customer complaints

Reporting Relationships: The Category Manager reports to the VP of Operations and Marketing

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent experience in the convenience or grocery class of trade.

Job Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of convenience and/or grocery business
  • Excellent negotiating skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft suite, including intermediate to advanced Excel skills (Vlookup, Pivot tables)
  • Organizational skills
  • File management (physical and digital)
  • Planning skills, multi-tasking skills, detail oriented
  • Street smart
  • Communication and human relation skills
  • Management skill

Salary range: $90K-$100K DOE
