Controls Engineering Intern

The Controls Engineer Intern will work with a small R&D team in Dallas to produce an industry leading Mobile Robotic solution for the Material Handling Industry. They will utilize the latest technologies to integrate robotics into material handling systems for complex applications. This includes R&D and prototype development to successfully bring new products to market. The process involves understanding the customer's goals and objectives and developing engineered solutions to meet these goals.

Technologies used in this position include high level automation, robotics, electrical design, Lidars, 2D and 3D machine vision, optical devices, specialty conveyors, and end of arm tooling. The Controls Engineer Intern will assist with developing detailed designs for special equipment in the material handling industry. The Controls Engineer Intern will assist Controls Engineers in executing all phases of a controls project including: concept and research, estimating, component selection, network design, panel design, ACAD layout, device troubleshooting, PLC/PC control programming, HMI development, on site installation and debug, and after sales support. The Controls Engineer Intern will receive training as needed to support goals listed above.

General Job Duties

  • Assist Controls Engineers with full scope of controls project services as outlined in the overview above
  • Assist Robotic and Mechanical Engineering with project design, prototyping, software development, and testing
  • Help deliver successful controls projects with regards to customer satisfaction, schedule, time, and budget
  • Help resolve engineering issues as they arise by working closely with the engineering team, vendors, and the shop
  • Ensure we meet and exceed our customer's expectations through superior design and implementation
  • Complete all administrative tasks/paperwork in timely manner
  • Work with Controls Engineers and management to prioritize tasks on micro level
  • Assist in developing recommended spare parts lists for the equipment manual once project is completed
  • Assist engineers and management to develop process standards within the department
  • Attend training and become certified in applicable controls technologies or program

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Electrical, Computer or Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Robotics and/or Controls
  • Exceptional classroom experience is a preference
  • Aptitude for Hands on Electrical and Mechanical troubleshooting
  • Extremely computer literate with MS Office products
  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills
