ROLE OVERVIEW
Bringing scientists’ cutting-edge science to market requires software that ships fast and reliably, while meeting stringent quality guidelines to ensure it is safe and meets its intended use. Benchling ships dozens of changes to production daily, and engineers across the organization rely on our tools to be consistent and efficient. As the Manager of the Release Engineering team, you will be responsible for the speed, reliability, and security with which Benchling’s SaaS products are built and shipped to where they need to go.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and hire engineers for the team that is responsible for all of Benchling’s software lifecycle processes
- Extend and improve our build, test, and release platform and processes to maximize developer satisfaction and customer trust
- Work closely with the Developer Productivity team and the Applications teams to enable developers to independently manage the lifecycle of their changes
- Build the tooling and automation to ensure that Benchling’s standard Cloud offering is continuously released, and that Benchling’s Validated Cloud product is released on a quarterly basis in accordance with Benchling’s change management procedures
- Manage risks and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
- Facilitate resolution of deployment problems and support engineering teams to self-service wherever possible

QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of experience managing high-performing platform or infrastructure engineering teams, with proven ability to scale their teams.
- 3+ years of experience as a software engineer or an SRE
- A track record of building out or significantly improving CI/CD systems
- Experience with deployment in a containerized environment such as Kubernetes or Amazon ECS
- A strong understanding of cloud computing, virtualization, and microservices architectures
- Experience using Feature Flags is a plus
- Experience with AWS is a plus
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, is a plus
- Willing to work onsite in our SF office 3 days a week.

Flexible Hybrid Work: We offer a flexible hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes in-office collaboration. Employees are expected to be on-site 3 days per week.
SALARY RANGE
Benchling takes a market-based approach to pay. The candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, interview performance, and work location. For this role the base salary range is $195,904 to $265,046.
