What you will do in this role:

Leadership and Governance

  • Develop financially viable business and organizational models that balance and align the interests of the hospital and those of the division, thereby achieving maximum flexibility for program development.

  • Interface with the hospital’s executive team to provide effective management direction for orthopedic services.

  • Interface with and lead hospital orthopedic leaders in collaboration with hospital administration.

Operations and Finance

  • Develop, monitor, and report operational and capital budgets. Coordinate with operational departments to ensure corresponding availability of service capacity to accommodate growth.

  • Facilitate the development of plans to reduce cost and improve efficiency within the hospitals related to orthopedics, which would be reflected in the various hospital efficiency plans and programs.

  • Establish plans to optimize reimbursement for services provided.

  • Monitor and drive operations to achieve clinical excellence in the service line.

  • Work with HCAPS leadership to ensure success of affiliated and/or employed physician groups at the practice level to develop service line efforts on the “ground floor.”

Strategic Planning and Business Development

  • Formulate and gain approval for strategic business plans and objectives consistent with hospital’s mission, goals, and strategies designed to support the community and ensure their mutual success.

  • Ensure the strategic planning and operational budgeting processes are linked and support the hospital’s plans. Maintain and monitor division business and strategic plans in coordination with Division VP of Planning.

  • Successfully link the service line with Gulf Coast Division outreach initiatives.

  • Develop new and enhance existing inpatient and outpatient clinical programs and services to achieve growth opportunities commensurate with availability capacity.

  • Facilitate contractual relationships between related organizations and Gulf Coast Division hospitals.

  • Establish marketing programs that enhance the awareness and preference for programs and services among key internal and external customer constituencies.

Research and Education

  • Guide the development of major orthopedic research initiatives, encouraging collaboration with other academic institutions for research purposes and extramural grant support for research activities.

  • Integrate and align research programs with the clinical operation.

Physician Relations

  • Develop and execute physician and staff recruitment plans to ensure adequate coverage at all facilities.

  • Build long-term relationships with key physicians, affiliated, integrated and/or employed.

Other

  • Ensure compliance with IRS, OIG, and HCFA laws and regulations particularly as they apply to hospital-physician financial relationships and business structures.

  • Establish collaborative relationships with key managers and departments in the Gulf Coast Division.

  • Develop programs to deliver medical services and interact with providers and consumers worldwide through affiliation arrangements, advanced communication and information technology development and, if appropriate, facility construction.

  • Develop well-defined and comprehensive business plans that outline short and long-term growth objectives and detail strategic and tactical initiatives.

  • Establish benchmark metrics focusing on volume, market share, quality, and profitable financial performance.

  • Assist each facility with accreditation and certification efforts related to the service line.

  • Assist each facility with the development of evidence based clinical protocols and order sets where appropriate.

  • Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement.”

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare related field required.

  • Master’s Degree in healthcare related or business field preferred or in progress

  • Current clinical licensure. (i.e. RN, PT, OT) with specialization in neuroscience services strongly preferred.

  • Five (5) years of experience in program development and/or administrative healthcare experience required.

  • Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience preferred.

  • Current working knowledge of the neuroscience field as it relates to neurosurgery, neurology, and neuroradiology.

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and flexibility in working with administrators, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and improve disease-specific programs.

  • Promote the safety, health, and quality of life for patients as a first priority at all times and guide the creation and growth of neuroscience programs.

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to follow through on issues.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain long-term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations.

  • Ability to work effectively with other employees and external parties.
