Covenant Academy of Mobile Accountant Job Description

Covenant Academy of Mobile (CAM) is the area's first elementary charter school that opened on August 8, 2023, with grades K-5th. During the 2025-26 school year, 7th grade will be added and thereafter, a new grade level will be added yearly until 12th grade is established. Next year, the school will serve approximately 320 students. Covenant Academy of Mobile provides a "non-traditional" education that prepares students in a S.T.E.A.M. environment to be leaders in a globalized world.

Mission: To create and maintain a positive learning environment that promotes relevant and engaging learning, inspires students to be ambassadors of good character, empowers students to develop skill sets and a passion for lifelong learning. By maintaining this environment, we provide opportunities for our students to be productive and caring contributors in a changing world.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To enhance the administration of the school/central office’s business affairs by performing the bookkeeping functions needed for budgetary control, revenue, distribution of expenditures, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other functions as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or higher, preferred.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of double entry accounting and bookkeeping systems, payroll and accounts payable procedures, as well as student information systems.

  • Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.

  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and perform assignments as directed with accuracy, attention to detail, and within established time frames.

  • Knowledge of computer network operations, data entry and retrieval using technology, and knowledge of bookkeeping procedures.

  • Ability to utilize or develop proficiency in the use of designated student information system accounting system, or other school/system software.

  • Ability to remain calm and use good judgment in emergency situations.

  • Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, and initiative in dealing with students, parents, faculty, and the public.

  • Ability to organize and maintain accurate records.

  • Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Possess and demonstrate high ethical standards, accountability, and integrity and ensure compliance with local school financial guidelines.

  • Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.

  • Ability to engage in prolonged sitting.

  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Head of Covenant Academy of Mobile may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates support for Covenant Academy of Mobile system and its vision, goals and priorities.

  • Provides management and supervision of Covenant Academy of Mobile, principal’s office and the office staff as requested.

  • Publishes or disseminates daily bulletins or information communications for teachers/staff and the principal/supervisor as assigned.

  • Provides training to teachers and/or staff related to local school accounting policies and procedures.

  • Maintains a complete and systematic set of records of all financial transactions of Covenant Academy of Mobile funds in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Monitors account balances and related financial activity for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.

  • Records details of school financial transactions.

  • Prepares financial statements, income statements, and accountability and cost reports to reflect the financial condition of Covenant Academy of Mobile.

  • Traces errors and records adjustments to correct charges or credits posted to accounts.

  • Reconciles statements and accounts as directed.

  • Maintains financial records for all funds.

  • Performs accounts payable duties that include, but are not limited to, the issuance of purchase orders, accurate coding and posting of invoices, timely payments to vendors.

  • Prepares and submits bank deposits daily.

  • Receipts all funds submitted to Covenant Academy of Mobile daily to the appropriate revenue codes.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Covenant Academy of Mobile accounting policies and procedures.

  • Follows attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.

  • Ensures adherence to good safety standards.

  • Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.

  • Models and maintains high ethical standards.

  • Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities; uses time wisely; works efficiently.

  • Maintains expertise in assigned areas to fulfill project goals and objectives.

  • Participates successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.

  • Keeps the principal/Head of School informed of potential problems or unusual events.

  • Serves on Covenant Academy of Mobile committees as required or appropriate.

  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement.

  • Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.

  • Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.

  • Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.

  • Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.

  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal and local regulations.

  • Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Covenant Academy of Mobile policies and procedures.

  • Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the principal/Head of School.

  • Terms of Employment Twelve-month position in accordance with the Board approved salary schedule.

Evaluation:

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Covenant Academy of Mobile policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
