AI Agent Engineer
Job description
About the Role
We are looking for a curious, hands-on engineer to help Newsmatics identify and build practical AI agents that solve real problems.
You will work with people across the company, turn promising ideas into prototypes, and develop the most useful ones into reliable solutions. For example, you might build an agent that discovers newly launched online publications and adds relevant information to our data workflows.
Some agents will support our internal teams, while others may develop into customer-facing products. This role suits someone early in their career who already has practical experience experimenting with AI agents, enjoys building things, and learns quickly.
About Us
Newsmatics is a privately held global News Tech company headquartered in Washington, D.C. We build platforms for media monitoring, analytics, news distribution, and news transparency. Our brands include EIN Presswire, Affinity Group Publishing, Newsmatics News Index, and Perspectify.
We collect and structure large volumes of global news and publisher data. Our international remote-first team values autonomy, curiosity, accountability, and measurable impact.
What You Will Do
- Identify useful opportunities for AI agents across Newsmatics.
- Build and test agents for internal and customer-facing use cases.
- Connect agents to company data, documents, APIs, search systems, and external tools using MCP.
- Gather feedback and evaluate the impact, reliability, security, and cost of different solutions.
- Follow new AI models, tools, and best practices, and explore how they could apply at Newsmatics.
What We Are Looking For
- Practical programming skills in Python or TypeScript.
- Hands-on experience building AI agents or LLM-powered applications, including working with agent frameworks, MCP (Model Context Protocol), RAG, and connecting agents to external tools or data sources.
- Familiarity with APIs, databases, and backend development.
- Awareness of how to test AI solutions and assess their limitations, security risks, and costs.
- Ability to recognize when simpler automation or conventional software may be a better choice than an AI agent.
- Curiosity about applied AI, a habit of following emerging tools and best practices, and the ability to turn an open-ended problem into a working solution.
- Initiative and the ability to collaborate effectively in English within a remote international team.
- Experience with cloud services or deploying AI solutions to production is an advantage, but not a requirement.
- We value practical skills, curiosity, and the ability to learn more than years of professional experience.
Environment & Technologies
Our environment includes Python, TypeScript, REST APIs, AWS, Linux, LLM APIs, agent frameworks, and Docker. You do not need experience with all of these technologies.
What We Offer
The opportunity to build AI agents with visible impact across an international news technology company.
Long-term, full-time contractor engagement with 100% remote work and flexible working hours.
A collaborative international environment with regular communication via Slack and Google Meet.
How to Apply
Please send us your CV in English and show us an AI agent or LLM-powered application you have built. It may be a professional, university, open-source, hackathon, or personal project. Briefly describe what it does and how it works.
