Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Animal Inspector to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and a strong understanding of animal physiology. The Animal Inspector manages rabies control for the domestic animal population within the Town. They are responsible for quarantining domestic animals and annually perform barn inspections. The Animal Inspector may be required to assist with domestic animal disease and quarantines in the event of an outbreak. They are responsible for enforcing state and local laws and regulations related to animal inspections.
Responsibilities:
- Perform barn inspections to maintain an accurate census of the domestic population, ensuring that animals appear in good health and free from disease; observe animal housing to ensure ample food and water are supplied.
- Assess the severity of risk for any animal exposed to rabies, considering the vaccination status of such mammal and determining the proper course of action.
- Point of contact for Veterinarians when a client presents an animal that may have had an encounter with a potential rabid animal to assess the situation and make recommendations.
- Quarantine domestic mammals for ten days following the bite of a human or another domestic animal. Provide care for animals in the kennel, including feeding, grooming, and exercise.
- Work with the ACO to ensure that all animals (domestic and wild) that require rabies testing are captured and euthanized in accordance with Massachusetts’s requirements as mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture.
- Maintain accurate records and comply with all state reporting requirements.
- Perform similar or related work as required or as the situation dictates.
Qualifications:
- Experience in handling or animal care is preferred.
- Previous experience (1-3) years, as an animal inspector or similar role, preferred. (not required)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately.
- Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately
Education:
- High school or equivalent (Required)
Experience:
Animal Control: 1 year (Preferred)
MA Driver's License (Required)
