ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Planning and Development Department (PDD) guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. It is a city department of approximately 555 employees across four main Divisions - Management Services, Planning, Historic Preservation, and Development.
The Accountant I is responsible for processing payments related to the Annual Facilities Program (AFP) and Elevator programs, reconciling accounts related to these programs and updating customer accounts. The work is very customer service oriented and will include a high volume in calls and emails across multiple departments and external customers. This position will require someone who can handle multi-tasking and stressful conditions all while meeting deadlines. The Accountant I reports to the Accountant II.
Job Duties include:
- Processing payments for AFP and Elevator programs.
- Perform balancing and reconciliation of non-sufficient funds (NSF's), Lockbox, and other General Ledgers (GL's).
- Create Journal Entries in SAP
- Monitor and update daily Lockbox transactions.
- Respond to inquiries and requests for information from other City departments, auditors, management, and customers.
- Contact customers on past due accounts and collect overdue balances
- Perform data entry for up to six [6] hours per day.
- Provide prompt quality customer service and establish working relationships in a team atmosphere.
- Organize workload and perform multi-tasking responsibilities.
- Keep Trust Accounts updated and send reports monthly.
- Update and reconcile the monthly Lockbox GL.
- Handle complex problems, conduct research, and recommend solutions.
- Perform special projects and backup accounting staff as needed.
The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday from 7:30am - 4:00pm
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Familiarity with accounting transactions rules, regulations and internal controls
- Ability to manage data using programs such as Microsoft Access and Excel.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize at short notice, and process documents timely and efficiently.
- Ability to collect and analyze financial data such as source documents used for accounting records of initial entry, control accounts, and financial reports.
- Understanding of the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Collections processes.
SALARY
Pay Range: $23.74 to $40.61 per hour.
Hiring Range: $23.74 to $35.08 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or Four years of paraprofessional accounting and/or payroll experience.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.

Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Collections experience.
- Proficient using Microsoft Excel
- Accounts Receivable experience.
- SAP/SRM experience with Accounts Payables and Accounts Receivables.
- Experience reconciling accounts for internal and external customers.
- Experience in Shape PHX and/or KIVA permitting systems.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
- Cash Handling and Point of Sale experience.
- Customer service experience.
