Department Position Purpose

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, and physicians in providing a broad range of general OB/GYN services.


The APP will have a strong foundation in evidenced based practice and ensures an environment of safe quality care.


Physician Assistant

Provides primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures.

Core Responsibilities


  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.


Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care team in the management gyn/oncology patients primarily in the ambulatory setting.
  • Current and evidence-based knowledge will inform treatment planning and clinical decision making in the management of women’s health.
  • Develops expertise in women’s health and gynecologic care.
  • Writes accurate and timely progress and procedure notes,
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicate and document information.
  • Privileged to perform procedures as identified by the OB/GYN services such as but not exclusive to biopsy and incision and drainage.
  • Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including CMS, and The Joint Commission.
  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients under the care of OB/GYN programs through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.

Physical Requirements

Preferred Experience: Prior Women’s Health experience preferred. Zero prior experience required.

Minimum Education:

Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies
