Conducts field inspections of used motor vehicle dealer sites to ensure proper licensing and compliance with state requirements/laws, and for license renewals. Conducts inspections of new used motor vehicle dealer facilities prior to the issuance of a license. Conducts inspections of salvage auctions. Conducts investigations/inspections of unlicensed and licensed used motor vehicle dealers. Investigates and responds to consumer and dealer complaints against used motor vehicle dealers and/or used motor vehicle dealer salespersons. Reviews vehicle advertising for false and/or misleading information. Provides technical assistance to used motor vehicle dealers and the public on applicable laws, regulations, and specifications pertaining to used motor vehicle license requirements. Compiles information and prepares reports. Prepares documentation for legal proceedings. Performs other duties as assigned.

The ASP Used Motor Vehicle Inspector is responsible for monitoring and inspecting all used motor vehicle dealers to ensure compliance with Arkansas statutory requirements. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Frequent in-state travel is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of state and federal regulations concerning used car dealership operations. Ability to plan and organize inspection routes. Ability to monitor used car dealers for compliance with laws and regulations and to document results and recommend corrective action. Ability to prepare and present oral and written information and reports. Ability to investigate complaints and provide reports concerning findings.
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma plus three years of experience in law enforcement, inspection, or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
Must have a valid Arkansas driver's license.
