About the role
As Assistant Area Retail Manager, you’ll help lead operations across multiple Red Bay Coffee locations (including Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco). You’ll support day-to-day café excellence, develop and coach our team, and partner with leadership to grow our brand and expand into new spaces.
You’ll split your time between working on the floor (especially during high-volume shifts) and tackling strategic and administrative tasks — from scheduling and payroll to team performance and operational planning.
What you'll do
- Team Leadership & Development: Support onboarding, training, feedback, and reviews. Foster a culture of growth, consistency, and care.
- Multi-Store Operations: Maintain clean, well-run cafés with accurate scheduling, ordering, inventory management, and payroll processing.
- Customer Experience: Set the tone for exceptional hospitality and ensure each guest has a warm, memorable experience.
- Bar & Quality Control: Keep quality standards high. Train teams on equipment, bar flow, drink execution, and coffee knowledge.
- Business Oversight: Monitor labor, costs, and sales performance. Help identify efficiencies and process improvements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Area Retail Manager, store leaders, and cross-functional teams to support projects, launches, and events.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of retail, hospitality, or food service leadership
- Hands-on barista experience and strong knowledge of coffee equipment and café workflows
- Confident in scheduling, inventory, payroll, and basic P&L concepts
- Natural coach with clear communication and team-building skills
- Reliable, organized, and proactive — you get things done
- Familiar with POS systems and Google Workspace
- Able to work weekends, early mornings, and holidays as needed
