POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the VP of Finance, the Assistant Controller will play a crucial role in ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the day-to-day processes of the accounting department and in the growth and development of the accounting team by leading with integrity and purpose. The Assistant Controller will be managing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Financial reporting, ensuring proper alignment with policies and controls in accordance with US GAAP while assisting with budgeting and forecasting and strategic financial planning and analysis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with US GAAP.
- General Ledger Management: Oversee the general ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing procedures.
- Internal Controls and policies: Implement, monitor, and regularly review internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and to align with industry best practices. Document technical accounting memos and policies.
- Audit Support: Prepare necessary documentation and support the external audit processes, field exams, insurance audits, as needed.
- Inventory Control: Oversee inventory accounting and controls across all locations and warehouses. Manage inventory accounting including inventory valuation, reconciliations, and analysis. Collaborate with operations and supply chain teams to improve inventory accuracy, cost controls, and process improvements. Monitor key inventory KPIs and report regularly to leadership.
- Cost Accounting: Maintain and analyze cost models and monitor variances to ensure accurate product costing. Analyze and report on production costs, labor efficiency, and overhead absorption. Manage inventory accounting including monthly cycle counts, valuation, reconciliations, and shrinkage analysis.
- Fixed Assets Management: Ensure accurate recording of fixed assets and reconcile to GL.
- Cash Management: Assist in cash flow forecasting and monitor cash positions to ensure operational liquidity.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support in their learning and development.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements within the finance department to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Sales Tax filing: File monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax returns, as required.
- Other: Assist with and/or prepare other internal and external reports. Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA preferred.
- Experience: 5-8 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Prior experience in a supervisory role is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in NetSuite. Familiarity with manufacturing cost accounting is preferred. Strong understanding of US GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and analysis.
- Organizational Skills: Skilled in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ethical: High ethical standards and professionalism, with a commitment to confidentiality.
