Position Overview:
The Assistant Controller is a versatile and detail-oriented professional responsible for assisting in preparing and maintaining financial records to track the organization’s assts, liabilities, profit and loss, and other related financial activities. This role requires a solid understanding of basic accounting principles. The Staff Accountant will collaborate closely with the Controller to ensure accurate financial record-keeping and contributing to the overall efficiency of the organization. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with both the accounting and management teams, fostering professional growth and development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
- Assists in preparing monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
- Maintains the general ledger.
- Work closely with Accounts Payable to ensure correct coding of invoices, set up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
- Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
- Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
- Files sales and personal property tax forms with state and local government agencies.
- Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
- Manages the purchasing and invoicing system.
- Assist in payroll processing, benefit tracking, and creating journal entries.
- Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting with two or more years of experience, or associate degree in accounting with five years of experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
