The campus is located on 140 acres in the historic Sandy Spring area of Montgomery County, Maryland, and the School is approved by the Maryland State Board of Education and accredited by the Association of Independent Maryland Schools.

Our school’s culture, rooted in the idea that collaboration engenders achievement, can be traced to our Quaker heritage and abiding belief in the Quaker values of simplicity, equality, integrity, stewardship of the environment, and peaceful resolution of conflict.

Summary: The Assistant Director of Admission at Sandy Spring Friends School (SSFS) plays a vital role in supporting the school’s enrollment goals and advancing its mission as a Quaker, college-preparatory school. This position is responsible for attracting new students and nurturing strong relationships with current families to support a vibrant and inclusive school community. The Assistant Director helps guide prospective families through the admission process and partners across the school to ensure a welcoming, mission-aligned experience for both new and returning families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of prospective students from inquiry through enrollment, including campus visits, interviews, and ongoing communications.
  • Review and evaluate applicant files and participate in Admission Committee decisions.
  • Build and sustain relationships with feeder schools, community organizations, educational consultants, and others to support outreach and enrollment efforts.
Coordinate and participate in admissions events, including open houses, tours, school fairs, yield events, and welcome programs.
  • Assist in developing marketing and communication strategies to attract and retain a diverse and mission-aligned student body.
  • Represent SSFS at external admission and school events and fairs, occasionally during evenings and weekends.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and current students and families to create a supportive and informative admission experience.
  • Build and sustain relationships with both feeder schools and community organizations to support outreach and enrollment efforts.
  • Support recruitment and retention strategies by engaging with current families, identifying potential concerns, and fostering continued satisfaction and connection.
  • Serve as a collaborative, mission-driven member of the Enrollment Management team committed to the success of both student recruitment and retention efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

  • 2–5 years of experience in admissions, education, or a related field, preferably in an independent school setting.
  • Commitment to Quaker values and the mission of Sandy Spring Friends School.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with cultural competency and a warm, engaging presence.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Technological fluency, especially with CRM systems and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends for events and recruitment travel.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally and regionally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with diverse populations and a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.

  • Familiarity with Veracross or similar admission platforms.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.

Physical Requirements: Daily desk work includes significant amounts of telephone and computer time as well as mobility around the entire campus. This includes frequent walking inside and outside and managing stairs as a part of daily routines.

Please note that the School has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy, which requires that all employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination.
