Position Overview
The Assistant Manager handles facility operations and is the leader of Hydra's lifeguard team. They are trusted with the upkeep of the pool, and the excellence of the lifeguard staff.
Pre-Requisite Skills & Experience
- High-school graduate or equivalent
- Prior management or leadership experience
- Lifeguarding Experience
- Lifeguard Certification
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification (nice to have)
Function & Goals - The Assistant Manager:
- Is a leader and role-model, with duty to ensure the quality and integrity of Hydra Aquatics; therefore:
- Presents themselves professionally as part of the team in both deed and appearance;
- Operates with an attitude of respect to self, others and the facility;
- Communicates proactively in an open, honest and positive manner, free of negativity harassment, intolerance and gossip;
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills, attends to reasonable requests;
- Manages and guides the Lifeguard staff with assistance from the General Manager;
- Maintains the safety, cleanliness and proper care of the facility;
- Assists the General Manager in the future growth, development and success of Hydra Aquatics.
Staff Management - The Assistant Manager:
- Manages the scheduling of the lifeguards by assigning shifts, and helping to find substitutes;
- Is responsible for staff training and certification, plans and leads all staff in-services and trainings;
- Shares responsibility with the General Manager for the direction and accountability of the Lifeguards;
- Records disciplinary, patron-related and safety issues and promptly shares with the General Manager.
Pool Safety - The Assistant Manager:
- Is responsible for the safety and care of all persons in the facility and takes charge in an emergency;
- Records such events in an Incident Report, and reports them to the General Manager;
- Understands and enforces the Jefferson Country Club/Hydra Aquatics Rules fairly and politely;
- Is properly equipped with safety equipment (hip pack, whistle, medical supplies) while on site;
- Maintains active CPR, Lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructor Certifications;
Facility & Maintenance - The Assistant Manager:
- Ensures the safety and cleanliness of the entire facility (pool, pool deck, lawn, bathrooms, changing rooms, shelter area, pump room) by delegating tasks, and supplementing with their own efforts;
- Manages the pool environment and is responsible for all operational concerns (chemical balance, fill, temperature, backwashing), and will notify the General Manager of a concern outside of expertise;
- Ensures all equipment is operational, is in its correct place, and informs the General Manager if something is broken, needs replacement, or if supplies are running low; and
- Assists in the record-keeping for the coming and going of patrons/guests with proper documentation.
About Hydra Aquatics
Hydra was born during the pandemic as a not-for-profit competitive USA sanctioned swim team in central Ohio. Our goal is to empower young people to be champions in and out of the water. What started as a swim team soon grew to include a swim lessons program designed to develop the hard-working mentality and skills needed to join swim competitively, and succeed in life outside the pool.
