Job Summary
As a Pricing and Commercial Assistant Manager for the Global Project Cargo Trade Pricing, you will be responsible for developing and implementing pricing and yield management strategies, as well as developing key accounts specializing in Project Cargo, Breakbulk and OOG cargoes. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including Sales, Operations, and HQ Liner, to ensure the profitability and competitiveness of the business. Your role will be crucial in achieving revenue targets, enhancing customer satisfaction, and maintaining our position as a market leader in the shipping industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and manage pricing guideline and rates matters (including special cargo-related services and value-added solutions) for Project Cargo, Breakbulk and OOG cargoes, taking into account market trends, competition, cost structures, and profit objectives.
- Maintain regular communication with Trade / Regional Office / Local Agents on business outlook, cargo projections, space allocation and equipment requirements for the business.
- Continuously evaluate and optimize pricing models and strategies to maximize revenue and profitability, while balancing customer demands, market dynamics and vessel utilization.
- Utilize data and analytics tools to analyze pricing performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide insightful recommendations to senior management.
- Provide guidance to sales agents on special cargo booking approvals, and LMS booking processes to ensure quick booking turnaround time.
- Conduct market analysis to assess current and future demand, supply, and competition for special cargo products and solutions.
- Establish strong network with local agents and customers to better understand customer preferences and tailor solutions to specific needs (including resolving any operational issues that may arise from a commercial perspective) for special cargo shipments.
- Conduct feasibility studies on pricing strategies and trade services, and be involved in business development plans and other trade commercial projects.
- Drive continuous improvements to shorten rate-request turnaround time while maintaining pricing governance and operational feasibility, by reviewing the end-to-end rate request and approval process, identifying bottlenecks, duplicated activities and opportunities for standardization, simplification or automation.
- Conduct yield optimization and cargo-mix analysis to evaluate how Project Cargo, Breakbulk and OOG cargo can enhance overall service yield and contribution to service P&L. Assess cargo tonnage, slot utilization, payload, equipment type, routing and contribution margins to demonstrate how special cargo can improve vessel weight balance and enable a more profitable cargo mix.
- Expand PIL's customer base for Project Cargo, Breakbulk and OOG cargoes by harnessing strong customer service support, product offerings and developing relationships with strategic customers specializing in this niche sector.
Job Requirements
- Tertiary education in Maritime, Business, Logistics, or a related field.
- Possess at least 3 years of experience in pricing management or related roles within the shipping, logistics, or maritime industry, preferably with expertise in Project Cargo, Breakbulk, OOG or other special cargo segments.
- In-depth knowledge of pricing strategies, market dynamics, and industry practices in the shipping and transportation sector.
- Strong strategic thinking abilities to develop and execute pricing strategies that align with HQ Liner business goals and market conditions.
- Strong negotiation skills to negotiate favorable pricing terms while maintaining strong relationships and customer satisfaction to achieve business objectives.
- Effective communicator to deliver pricing strategies, goals, and updates to HQ Liner, internal stakeholders, and customers clearly and persuasively.
- Strong analytical skills to conduct market research, analyze pricing data and interpret financial information to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for revenue optimization.
