Position Summary
Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
Portland State’s 49-acre downtown campus exhibits Portland State’s commitment to sustainability with green buildings and many of the 124 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees incorporate sustainability into the curriculum. PSU’s motto, “Let Knowledge Serve the City,” inspires the teaching and research of an accomplished faculty whose work and students span the globe.
The Office of Academic Innovation (OAI) provides leadership and support for campus activities that explore and promote excellence in teaching and learning, innovative curricular technology use, and community-based learning. OAI serves as a thought leader and thought partner for campus initiatives such as changing curricular and educational delivery models, improving student success, and advancing teaching, learning, and assessment practices. OAI works with individuals and departments, convenes learning communities, engages in campus-wide conversations, and develops digital resource materials.
The OAI staff includes individuals with expertise in organizational development, instructional design, community-based learning, assessment, curriculum and instruction, adult learning, instructional technology, multimedia development, and educational leadership. The Office of Academic Innovation (OAI) provides leadership and support for PSU initiatives that respond to these rapid changes, including changing curricular and educational delivery models and innovative technology use. Each position at OAI therefore requires:

Position Summary
The Associate Director of Faculty Support and Digital Learning Environment is responsible for faculty digital support services and the identification, management, and contracting of digital learning tools. This position provides direct leadership for the faculty support team, ensuring responsive, effective and efficient help with academic technology and teaching across PSU. The Associate Director assists the Associate Vice Provost for Academic Innovation in identifying and implementing innovative digital solutions to address teaching and learning challenges and continuously advance faculty and student success. This position requires expertise in academic technology, pedagogy, technical support, and customer service.
This position will:
- Engage in a high degree of collaboration with OIT to deliver a simple, intuitive and engaging user experience across all devices with consideration for strategy, design, UI and interoperability
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a technology roadmap that bridges a progressive learning approach with the implementation of practical, agile solutions that facilitate faculty and student success
- Provide feedback, data analysis, and recommendations on the user experience and trends across PSU’s educational technology platforms and services
- Identify and mitigate any risk such as privacy, security and interruption of service, notifying the AVP of any such risks that arise
- Report the effectiveness of existing platforms and deliver insights to the institution on outcomes and experience
- In partnership with the AVP, coordinate the contract renewal cycle process for all platforms, managing licensing costs to the allocated budget
- Work with the AVP to optimize the Faculty Support service model and Support Team scheduling
- Lead the Faculty Support team to a high level of responsiveness, quality service, and stakeholder satisfaction
- Collaborate with the OIT System Administration team to maintain the integrity, security, and privacy of OAI procured technology
Work requires on-campus, in-office interaction with OAI’s leadership team, staff, and campus partners during OAI’s business hours.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in higher education or a field related to adult learning or technology
- A minimum of three years of technology management and leadership experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing faculty support or customer service teams
- Experience managing or administering a Learning Management System, multimedia and digital collaboration tools such as Canvas, Zoom, Kaltura and Google Workspace platforms
- Experience evaluating, selecting and supporting technologies in a complex digital environment
- Proven experience with project management, ticketing system, and academic software

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.
The starting annual salary for this position will be between $96,468 and $104,307, but may be negotiated above this range, dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
