Accountable for all aspects of scientific communications for assigned Oncology product(s), including; 1) managing publication strategy, planning and execution, 2) coordinating global medical education strategy, planning and execution to ensure awareness of key data and scientific platform for Novartis products to internal and external stakeholders.

1. Drives the development, implementation and dissemination of strategic global scientific communication plan / scientific platform for assigned priority brand(s) within Franchise:
• Drives development of the strategy for the scientific communications plan in alignment with IDAPS
• Drives development and execution of global medical education activities, including scientific events (congress symposia, virtual expert forum, meet the expert event)
• Accountable for leading a cross-functional (GMA, GGD, OTM, Stats, Legal/Regulatory) publication team and development / implementation of global publication plan(s)
• Collaborates across GMA for development of scientific platform / internal medical resources and training
• Utilize enterprise thinking to execute on strategy and tactics, with a focus on high quality stakeholder engagement

2. Responsible /accountable for the development of a comprehensive communication plan, scientific platform and strategy in alignment with GMA, GPT and IDAPS (medical/commercial /regional). Member of Integrated Disease & Medical Team (IDMT) and ensure G/R/C alignment of publications and medical education.

3. Responsible/accountable for congress scientific communications
• Including data interpretation in collaboration with GMD / brand team on both internal trial results and key competitor data
• Developing internal global communications and education for Novartis products
• Presentation to upper management, regions & CPOs

4. Establish strong working relationships and actively collaborates with key internal and external stakeholders (GMD’s, MSL/MI Lead, GPTs, IDMT, GMA, OTM, biostats, legal/regulatory, US Sci Comm, medical experts, speakers, consultants, patient advocacy groups, societies).

5. Serves as functional subject matter expert (publications & medical education) and role model for scientific communications team.

6. Consistently leads medical education / publication excellence projects for Scientific Engagement & Communications (SEC) Department with strategic impact across GMA.

7. Manage all aspects of publication and medical education agencies in support of scientific communications. Identify and screen appropriate vendors, solicit, evaluate and approve proposals.

8. Ensure compliance with all legal regulatory and Novartis requirements for scientific communications (publications and medical education materials) such as GPP, CME, NVS policies (P3), relevant SOPs and guidance)

Manage all financial and contractual aspects of assigned projects, including vendor negotiations. Develop yearly budget for assigned product (s) and manage monthly spend within allocated budget

Minimum requirements

• Advanced scientific degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD preferred)
• Fluent English (oral and written)
• 5+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical industry or healthcare related, ideally in Medical Affairs publication planning and/or medical education activities

• 2+ years Oncology related experience (preferred)

• Experience in the development of communication strategies & key scientific platforms.

• Ability to provide strategic insight into scientific expert development activities, publication planning plus developing medical education materials and programs that support product launches in oncology.

• Proven record of accomplishment in a Scientific Communications role including interpretation and presentation of complex scientific data

• Strategic mindset including innovation and critical thinking with performance-oriented drive.

• Experience in planning and executing live educational events and enduring materials and/or experience in driving the development of scientific messaging and execution of publications preferred

• Expert project management and budget management experience.

• Ability to travel (International & US) approximately 20% of time
