Position Summary

Leads sourcing team in developing, negotiating, maintaining and updating contracts and vendor relationships for Medical/Surgical, and Pharmaceutical products and services. Works with the School of Medicine to identify products and services to target for contracting, solicits and evaluates proposals, negotiates contracts, and works to secure benchmarking information. Prepares contract information for distribution, filing and publication. Reports on contract and customer service activities. Participates in contract and customer service strategy sessions. Reviews purchase request documents for policy compliance and appropriateness. May have direct and indirect supervisory responsibility over sourcing team personnel in supporting these duties.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Contract Management

  • Negotiation, RFP development and assessment, supplier relationships, business review meetings, identification and target contracting opportunities, monitor contract utilization, review and assess Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) agreements.

Purchase Request Document Review

  • Insures appropriateness of requests, advise departments of cost saving opportunities.
  • Purchase order and contract sign-off authority up to $500,000.

Reporting

  • Develops and reviews spend analysis, prepares and documents cost savings, etc.

Customer Service

  • Establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with the various organizations at WashU, particularly within the School of Medicine.
  • Assists departments with pharmaceutical, medical supply and equipment requirements
  • Troubleshooting issues as they occur.
  • Reviews terms and conditions documents for external departments as needed.

Special Projects

  • Manages special projects as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience in procurement, contracting, business or related field or combination of education and experience to equal 8 years of procurement, contracting, business or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years’ experience in purchasing (pharmaceutical products preferred), materials management, accounting or other pertinent areas.
  • Pharmacy Technicians License.
  • Three years of management/supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical and communication skills (verbal and written) and a sensitivity to effectively interacting with a highly diverse campus community.
  • Expertise in influencing and leading matrixed teams.
  • Good organizational skills with ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to develop and recommend effective short and long-range strategic plans.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and software such as Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of the Workday software tool.

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
