JOB SUMMARY

A pilot surveillance programme focused on Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) will be established in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Its purpose is to determine the burden of SARI requiring hospitalisation, demographic trends in this patient population, outcomes and the proportion of admissions that may be vaccine-preventable. The SARI Data Coordinator will support the identification of eligible patients for recruitment into the SARI programme, as well as ensure timely and accurate collection of surveillance data for onward submission to programme stakeholders. Major responsibilities of the role include preparation and review of patient screening lists, extraction and processing of data from clinical and laboratory records, and maintenance of records for the SARI surveillance programme.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Screening and Recruitment of Patients
  • Generate, maintain and validate daily screening lists for identification of eligible patients for recruitment into the SARI surveillance programme
  • Liaise with the SARI Surveillance Coordinator to facilitate recruitment and collection of microbiological specimens (if indicated) from eligible patients
  1. Surveillance and Data Collection
  • Perform symptom and disease surveillance, collecting and managing data via designated surveillance systems
  • Extract relevant clinical and microbiological data as required for submission from hospital records
  • Ensure collected data is accurate, comprehensive, up to date and presented in an appropriate format
  • Maintain accurate case lists, data files and internal records, with strict attention to patient confidentiality and data security
  1. Liaison and Communications with Stakeholders
  • Compile data into weekly reports for submission to stakeholders in a timely manner, while ensuring availability of backup logs
  • Respond to data queries and support the collection of additional clinical and surveillance information as required through close liaison with programme stakeholders
  • Assist in ongoing review and evaluation of the SARI surveillance programme, ensuring smooth operations and realization of programme objectives, which may include the development of operational workflows

GENERAL

  • Conduct surveillance activities (e.g., screening, recruitment, follow-up) in compliance with programme workflows, regulatory and ethical standards, and hospital policies
  • Assist in programme-related correspondence and documentation to facilitate smooth implementation
  • Support the processing and analysis of collected data as instructed by HoD and Supervisor
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by HoD and Supervisor

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics / Statistics or in a field related to data handling

EXPERIENCE

  • Prior work experience in data collection, data cleaning and audit, and maintenance of datasets, preferably in a healthcare-related setting
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills in English
  • Critical thinking abilities, with capacity for both independent and team-based work
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Familiarity with clinical systems such as EPIC is helpful
  • Prior experience with using data analysis software (e.g. Tableau) is advantageous
  • Applicants must have high integrity, a strong commitment to confidentiality, and a proactive eagerness to learn and take initiative
