Audiology/Otology Technician I - Full-Time, Days

The dizziness and hearing clinic at UChicago Medicine is led by a multidisciplinary team that provides high-quality dizziness evaluation and treatment for adults. We offer state-of-the-art diagnostics and treatment. Our team combines otoneurologists, otologists (ENT) and audiologists to diagnose and manage dizziness and hearing issues.

As an Audiology Technician I you’ll work under the general supervision of the Senior Audiologist in the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program, the Audiology Technician I is responsible for the preparation of patients, collection of information pertinent to the test, performance of the specified test and interpretation of the recording for the purpose of informing a physician of critical problems. The job requires 40 hours per week. Weekday and weekend hours will be required.

Essential Job Functions:

• Obtains relevant information and a patient history from the patient's chart or referring physician.
• Explains procedures as needed to family and other medical staff.
• Applies electrodes according to manufacturers’ specifications.
• Applies headphone/coupler according to manufacturers’ specifications.
• Obtains standard recordings, recognizes artifacts and takes appropriate steps to eliminate them.
• Interprets the recording for the purpose of informing the physician of clinical or technical issues.
• Makes appropriate calibrations to the equipment for standard recordings.
• Keeps equipment clean and in good operating condition, detects instrument malfunctions and notifies supervisor of any problems.
• Plays a role in the general flow and operation of the department including all paperwork (billing, logging, patient files and reports), quality of recordings and patient satisfaction.
• Notifies Audiology immediately with any child that fails initial and secondary screening so more extensive diagnostic testing can be completed.
• Performs other duties as requested by senior management.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma required.
• One year experience in clinical care of patients required, preferably pediatrics
• Must have basic computer skills.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills to interface with physicians, patients, families and staff.
• Must satisfactorily complete on-the-job training in the use of AABR and DPOAE screeners.

In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the day shift, between the hours of 7:00 am - 6 pm and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 90% at the River East clinic and 10% at the Hyde Park DCAM Clinic. The days of the week that you are scheduled will be Monday - Friday.
