Position: Behavioral Health Assessor (Contract)
Under the Supervision of the Clinical Director
Position Summary:
We are seeking a qualified and flexible Behavioral Health Assessor to conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for children and adolescents referred for services. This position includes a combination of virtual (telehealth) and in-person assessments conducted in the community, office settings, and Metro Atlanta jails. In addition to conducting assessments, the assessor may provide short-term therapy services on an as-needed basis.
The role requires strong clinical knowledge of mental health and co-occurring disorders, the ability to develop individualized treatment plans, and familiarity with Georgia Medicaid documentation standards. The assessor plays a key role in initiating services by identifying client strengths, needs, diagnoses, and goals.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct Behavioral Health Assessments (BHAs) face-to-face in the community, jails, homes, and virtually via telehealth platforms.
- Review referral documentation and complete initial intake and orientation with youth and families.
- Gather biopsychosocial, developmental, social, and medical histories to inform clinical diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Formulate Individual Resiliency Plans (IRPs)/Treatment Plans based on assessment data, youth goals, and family input.
- Complete and submit required documentation in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, including:
- CANS/ANSA
- Behavioral Rating Scales
- Authorization forms
- BIRP notes (as needed for therapy)
- Ensure documentation aligns with Medicaid and agency billing codes, standards, and content requirements.
- Communicate and collaborate with referral sources, including DFCS, juvenile justice partners, probation officers, and other service providers.
- Attend weekly clinical team and supervision meetings.
- Provide brief therapy services (individual or family), as appropriate, to support continuity of care during initial stages.
- Ensure timely submission of assessments and plans to APS Healthcare or the appropriate Care Management Organization (CMO).
- Maintain compliance with Assessor Policy guidelines and agency procedures.
- Participate in quality improvement and record auditing processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Licensure or associate-level credentials preferred (LPC, LAPC, LCSW, LMSW, LMFT, MFT, MSW).
- Experience in conducting behavioral health assessments and developing treatment plans (IRPs).
- Familiarity with Georgia Medicaid standards and community-based behavioral health service delivery.
- Ability to engage youth and families in high-stress environments such as detention centers or emergency community situations.
- Strong working knowledge of the DSM, co-occurring disorders, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort using EMR systems (e.g., Sharenote) and electronic documentation platforms.
- Willingness and ability to travel within the Metro Atlanta area, including jails and community-based settings.
