The Benefits Analyst position supports the Benefits Department in implementing and reviewing group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, accident plan, flexible spending plan, retirement plan, etc.). This position provides excellent customer service and administers quality benefits plans. Responsibilities include analyzing data, completing invoicing, monitoring leave activity, and coordinating wellness initiatives.
Benefits Analyst Duties/Responsibilities:
Coordinate transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration.
Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes.
Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fees.
Coordinate daily benefits processing. Handle enrollments, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, QDROs, NMSNs, retirement plan loans and compliance testing.
Review, track and oversee Disability and other leaves of absence, working closely with the disability vendors and affected employees regarding process and lengths of leave; communicate leave periods and updates to appropriate staff.
Oversee maintenance of employee benefits files, maintain group benefits database and update employee payroll records.
Gather employee data and oversee the processing of monthly billings and the preparation of payment requisitions to the Accounting Department.
Allocate group health, dental and vision claims monthly; review with leadership.
Analyze current benefits through metrics tracking, evaluating the use, services, coverage, effectiveness, cost, plan experience and competitive trends in benefits programs.
Survey industry trends. Complete benefits surveys and review information obtained from the results. Analyze complex benefits information.
Provide customer service support to internal and external customers. Develop communication tools to enhance understanding of the company's benefits package.
Design and distribute materials for benefits orientations, open enrollment and summary plan descriptions. Provide training and support for group benefits associates, home office associates and the field staff.
Support wellness initiatives and participate in implementing company wellness programs.
Track wellness program usage (to include both fitness and tobacco cessation wellness reimbursements).
Process tuition reimbursement requests.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Benefits Analyst Required Skills/Abilities:
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including PowerPoint; experience with HRIS and benefits databases.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to manage and prioritize several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of plan designs.
- Strong level of confidentiality; discreet handling of sensitive matters and situations.
- Knowledge of pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, OBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
Benefits Analyst Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in human resource management or related field, and three to five years of related benefits or employee benefits administration experience.
Experience working with multiple states and company divisions preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Normal mental/visual attention in a standard office environment.
