Financial Counselor – Medicaid/Charity Care
Responsibilities:
The experienced Bi-Lingual Eligibility Financial Counselor will be responsible for working with patients and individuals who are uninsured or under-insured to assist them in applying for Charity Care, Medicaid, New Jersey Family Care and Marketplace Health Insurance. The Financial Counselor will also:
- Conduct financial screenings of patients in order to secure payment for healthcare services for those that are uninsured or under-insured. Screenings will be conducted via face to face meetings with patients and family members as well as through telephone contact.
- Collect information and documentation in order to complete eligibility applications for Charity Care, Medicaid and Family Care including all necessary documentation and patient signatures.
- Process accounts through Medicaid eligibility systems.
- Follow-up for Medicaid numbers with Board of Social Service Agencies, SSA.
- Complete all Medicaid eligibility SSI/SSD applications.
- Provide timely and appropriate referrals for state medical assistance programs.
- Set up appointments with patients to meet with Field Service representatives.
- Send letters and place phone calls to patients.
- Support management in maintaining client goals and perform other duties as assigned by Management.
Job Requirements:
- Prior experience working in a Doctor’s office or Hospital setting preferred.
- Knowledge of Charity Care, Uncompensated Care and Medicaid guidelines and regulations.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and understanding of insurance verification processes preferred
- Detail oriented and the ability to multitask using multiple information systems.
- Possess knowledge in the areas of patient registration and business office operations.
- Two years financial counseling preferred.
- Ability to interact with clients and co-workers with mutual respect and professionalism.
- Preferred experience in the use of various Microsoft Office software applications.
- Preferred proficiency in the use of hospital patient accounting systems such as EPIC.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all patient confidentiality standards.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must be Bi-Lingual ( Spanish speaking) and exhibit strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
- Must be vaccinated against COVID-19 and show proof of vaccine
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
