Bilingual PREA Advocate
Reports To
The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Advocate will report to the Survivor Response Program Manager
Job OverviewThe PREA Advocate works with closely with New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) to provide services to victims of sexual violence who are incarcerated.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide OVS information, emergency awards and assistance to all victims of sexual violence.
- Provide in person and phone counseling to survivors at facilities we service.
- Conduct safety planning and information and referral for clients.
- Provide reporting options for clients and assist with Office of Special Investigations (OSI), PREA Deputy, Watch Commander and/or other reporting agency.
- Conduct safety planning and crisis intervention for clients.
- Attend monthly meetings and trainings.
- Receive and follow up with all referrals from Crisis Service who supervises the State PREA Helpline.
- Work with other Rape Crisis Centers in NYS to ensure best practices for survivors of sexual violence who are incarcerated.
- Provide grant reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis as required by the agency and funders.
Qualifications
- BA Preferred (Social Services, Criminal Justice, Counseling, etc)
- Must have strong knowledge of MS Office (including strong excel skills) and G-Suite (Google Drive and Google applications)
- Excellent writing, public speaking and presentation skills.
- Highly motivated and self-starter with strong commitment to advocating for the rights of victims of sexual violence.
- Driver’s license and car required (for client accompaniment and agency meetings)
- Bilingual Spanish fluency required
Starting Salary: $48,000
Job Type: Full-time
